The Best Indie Everything For Fall 2016

As the temperatures slowly but surely begin to cool, the humidity of dog day months is replaced by crisp evening breezes, and the Pumpkin Spice everything comes out of hibernation, along with it come new playlists to narrate our individual seasonal ambiances. And whereas all things Halsey, dad-rock, and Rihanna dotted your soundtrack poolside, it's time to trade in these tunes for mellow soundtracks fireside. Here's all of the newest indie albums, ranging from alternative to pop to hip-hop, that you need to accompany your autumn adventures.

For Fall Adventures:

Keep the excitement and energy going for those late-night drives back from your city's infamous haunted house. "Best Day Of My Life" band American Authors is known for its uplifting offerings, and their newest album, Oh What A Life promises a selection of nothing less. Broods, the brother/sister pair hailing from New Zealand (and creators of the indie-famous song "Bridges") recently released an incredible pop album, fitted with synth, electronics, dance-y beats, and collabs with Tove Lo and Lorde titled, Conscious. Growing Pains from the up-and-coming hip hop duoMoosh & Twist is a rage through and through.

For Cuddling:

If you've combed through an indie playlist ever, you've undoubtedly heard the soulfully sad ballad "Youth" from Daughter. Their latest album, Not To Disappear maintains their softness without compromising any bit of poignancy. Björk-esque Bat For Lashes will have you floating with The Bride. And if ever there were a time to light your new Bath & Body Works candle, do it with a bowl of candy corn and Grizfolk's Waking Up The Giants in the background. Note: pet-cuddling also perfectly acceptable.

For Baking And Butter Beer-Brewing:

Whether you're assembling pre-cut pumpkin-stamped sugar cookies, or whipping up an entire batch of butter beer and cauldron cakes (invite me, please?) these classic indie-alternative groups have got you covered in the kitchen. Kitchen floors are meant for dancing, and kitchen utensils, for lip-synch karaoke. Ra Ra Riot's poppy ballads in Need Your Light will have your feet moving and shoulders swaying. Home of the Strange by "Cough Syrup"-famous Young The Giant, paired with "First"-famous Cold War Kids is the perfect blend of mellow and rhythm.

For The Chilly Late Night Drives:

Evening spontaneity and sugar cravings will surely tempt you out into the cold for the promise of doughnuts and dark roast from whatever Dunkin' Donuts might still be open. Fans of Twenty One Pilots, Hoodie Allen, or Bo Burnham will surely find themselves fan of Watsky and his latest collection, titled Infinity. Fans of Ed Sheeran or The Weeknd will find striking combined similarity in Jarryd James with High. Shura's chill synth in Nothing's Real is perfect for those empty stretch of highway lit by fast food signs.

Whether serving as the aux DJ along a friend-packed road trip, or just in need of a playlist for some spoopy baking, turn it up and get to adding those songs on Spotify.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
