To The Best Friend I've Ever Had, Thank You

Friendship is built on a million little things, and I love you for every single one of them.

To The Best Friend I've Ever Had, Thank You
Megan Smith

To my future maid of honor, soulmate, personal photographer, and the coolest aunt to my unborn children. To the girl who danced with me at senior prom, held my hand at graduation, and helped me get ready for my 21st birthday. To the real-life Cristina to my Merideth and Brooke to my Peyton. To the girl who has loved me through every 7th grade heartbreak and college meltdown. To the girl who has picked me up on the days I hit rock bottom and the one that's celebrated every accomplishment. To the girl who is my best friend, person, and the closest thing I'll ever have to a sister -- thank you:

1. Thank you for never giving up on me.

Things haven't always been perfect— we have fought, disagreed, and gone months without talking. There have been times where you have made me so mad, and I know, for a fact, I have done the same to you. But no matter what happens, we always find a way to make it back to each other. You've seen me at my absolute worst and you still love me when I'm being stubborn, mean, and selfish. You have a heart of gold, and I am so thankful every single day that you've decided to stick by me through everything.

2. Thank you for being my biggest fan.

Thank you for texting me every time I take a big exam and waiting up with me until I find out the results. Thank you for being the first person to like and comment on every Instagram picture, Facebook post, and tweet. Thank you for wanting to read my articles and hear about my day. Thank you for coming to me when you need medical advice because you trust my knowledge that much. Thank you for never, ever letting me go a single day without knowing how proud you are of me.

3. Thank you for making everything better.

Everything is better and funnier when you are with me. Thank you for singing too loudly with me at every single concert and dancing crazily with me while other people look at us like we're nuts. Thanks for being my copilot for every road trip and keeping me calm in big cities. Thank you for being down for every 'Instagram worthy' picture and every weird adventure I want to go on. Whether we are running errands or going on vacation, just being with you makes every single thing better.

4. Thank you for always being real with me.

Thank you for telling me when I'm making a mistake or being irrational and not being afraid of hurting my feelings. A huge part of friendship is being able to have the real, hard, and messy conversations with each other and being willing to listen. Thank you for telling me when my outfit doesn't look good or when my makeup is messed up. Thank you for being the one person I know that will always tell me the truth, no matter how much I don't want to hear it.

5. Thank you for letting me be your person.

You are the most perfect person on the planet, and I'm not just saying that because you're my best friend. Every day I look at you and wish I could be just like you. Your looks, your intelligence, and your drive to be the best person in every room. I look up to you, respect you, and strive to be more like you. I've seen your worst day ever and still think that you are amazing. I've seen your best moments, and I swear, the entire world lights up when you laugh on those days. Friendship is built on a million little things and I love you for every single one of them, and I cannot wait to see everything you accomplish with this life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
