I'd like to start off by saying I only started watching The Bachelor during Nick Vial's season, which is when I personally became obsessed with the show, then kept on watching with Rachel Lindsey's season of The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise. When they were in the midst of announcing who the new bachelor would be, we all wished it was Peter Kraus. The thought of him being alone to me personally was unacceptable, so being the new fan I was I wished he became the next bachelor. Unfortunately, the producers threw a curve ball and announced Arie Luyendyk Jr. as the next bachelor. I personally never watched him on the show before, but I knew I was in for a shit show.
After countless dates (and 29 women later), there was two left: Becca K and Lauren B. Arie was clearly involved with both of these women, telling each he loved them (Bachelor Nation Faux Paux.) He later on proposed to Becca K. This is where things got complicated. During their whirlwind romance as a newly engaged couple, Arie still had doubts over letting Lauren go and proposing to Becca.
So what would any non-self-respecting man do?
Dump his fiancé with camera crews filming everything. This was the most awkward, highly uncomfortable break up anyone has ever witnessed.
Arie Luyendyk Jr. is the epitome of every dude who ever broke your heart.
You know that saying, "ripping off a band aid slow will make it hurt less"-- their break up equates to that. He tried to soft pedal it; no one expected him to walk into the room horns blaring announcing "it's over," but the small talk and his excuses for what he was about to do? Kind of a crappy thing to do.
He wouldn't leave, like... at all. This poor girl who just had the rug pulled out from underneath her had to keep asking him to leave, but he kept sticking around. At one point he said, " I'm gonna go," yet he stayed (for way too long). As a viewer, I couldn't tell if he had more to say, which would be surprising considering all he ever said on his season was "wow," "I love that," and " I love you," or waited for Becca to either hug him, beg him to stay, or say something to make him feel better .
He moved on too fast. In Bachelor universe, it's not uncommon for a couple to go from "hello" to engaged in a short time span, but Arie went from engaged to Becca, breaking up with Becca and engaged to Lauren quicker than it takes me to parallel park.
All in all, it's fine. Becca is the new Bachelorette, and hopefully she ends up with a guy muchbetter than Arie.
