I fell in love with the idea of being a writer for more than just the satisfaction of my words filling up a piece of paper. I vaguely remember a time where I came across a post online stating that, to be a writer, it means more than having good grammar and sentence structure. It is the ability to create passion out of thin air with your ideas.
To this day, that still sticks in my mind.
I'll be honest, writing is capable of being quite awful. Oftentimes, a piece is never quite perfect enough. We all have this burning desire for our projects to be just right down to the very last word; to feel as if our readers would hang on by the edge of their seats for every second. As someone who read a lot growing up, the best feeling was traveling through a novel in what felt like seconds.
My ultimate goal is to give at least one reader that experience.
However, language can be quite tricky. Everyone has their own version of it even within their own heads. Therefore, we have to eventually accept our word will be understood differently across the audience.
Every person is going to find their own meaning.
When a piece is put out on display for the world to see, it is open to millions of different interpretations. As any sort of artist, and especially for me as a writer, this can get real scary real fast. Personally, the last thing I'd ever want is for my work to be twisted, but we also can't please everybody.
If you think about it, this can apply to music, television shows, movies, and even stage productions. It comes down to the way we convey our thoughts through words. Anyone with access to language, paper, and a pen can write.
Anyone with a voice can speak words.
