You know those songs. The angsty ones. You jammed to the albums. You dramatically acted out the songs in your room. This week, as I drove to Oxford, Mississippi, I listened to some of these albums. Most notably: "Breakout" by Miley Cyrus. If you disagree on the fact that "Breakout" is her best album, then I might want to fight you. We'll argue about that some other day. Here's "The Album of Teen Angst." (You can listen to it on Spotify here.) I hope you remember wanting to yell at an ex that you never had.
Intro: "...Baby One More Time" by Chad Michael Murray
1. "7 Things" by Miley Cyrus
2. "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" by Panic! At The Disco
3. "Gives You Hell" by The All-American Rejects
4. "Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance
5. "Don't Let Me Get Me" by P!NK
6. "Complicated" by Avril Lavigne
7. "Misery Business" by Paramore
8. "Girl Next Door" by Saving Jane
9. "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter
10. "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers
11. "Addicted" by Simple Plan
12. "Too Little, Too Late" by JoJo
13. "I Don't Care" by Fall Out Boy
14. "Invisible" by Clay Aiken
15. "A Little Too Not Over You" by David Archuletta
Honorable Mention: "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift. She's not on Spotify (talk about teen angst), so go ahead and listen to it on Youtube here.
The last two are going to be lost hits of the decade one day. Other than that, I hope you have a chance to reminisce on all of the teen angst you once harbored (maybe still even harbor). There was once a day when these songs were my favorites to listen to. (That day was yesterday.) There's no shame in shouting out your feelings, even if there are no substantial reasons to feel that way. Sometimes you just need to shout. Let these songs help you do that.
