Dear Marquette Class of 2020,
When you come to Marquette University, you'll discover no shortage of things to love and appreciate about the school and the city of Milwaukee. As a soon-to-be senior, I get reflective about my Marquette experience often. Recently, I jotted down some of the most memorable "ABCs" of Marquette University during one of my most profound bouts of nostalgia, a definitive list of things to pay attention to once you move to campus in August. Go Marquette!
Alma Mater!
"HAIL ALMA MATER, THEE WE DO CALL. WE’RE HERE TO GREET THEE, DEAREST FRIEND TO ALL. WE’RE HERE TO SHOW THEE OUR LOVE IS STRONG HAIL ALMA MATER! MARQUETTE, HEAR OUR SONG!"
"Be the Difference."
Colectivo Coffee (double letter bonus?)
A Milwaukee staple and Marquette student favorite. Also Caff's, because this wouldn't be an article about Marquette if I didn't include Caff's.
Dogg Haus
Because you cannot underestimate the healing powers of a Chicago Dog at 2 a.m.
Education
Because I could not think of anything else for "E," and that is what we are here to get, right?
Gesu Parish.
You'd either be telling a bold-faced lie or definitely not a Marquette student if you said you haven't Instagram-ed this beauty yet.
Hot Cookie Night
Few more delicious words have ever been uttered.
Joan of Arc Chapel
Oldest building in the western hemisphere still used for its original purpose. And because they're our main men, J is for Jesuits too.
Kilbourn
If you weren't wandering around on Kilbourn every Friday and Saturday night of your freshman year, mad props to you.
Lalumiere
It looks like the honeycombs in a bee hive, and it's first floor is actually it's second floor and the basement is the first floor and the second floor might be the third floor? Get to Lalumiere two hours before your first day of class to find your room.
Michael Lovell
The beloved president of this fine institution of higher learning. Also, what would the ABC's of Marquette University be without a warmhearted mention of McCormick, the dumpiest and most highly revered dorm on campus.
O'Donnell Hall
The dorm assignment every freshman boy cries about receiving when housing information is released in June and later cries about leaving come move out day in May.
Preview
Enjoy some horrible ice breakers, a square dance and meeting your significant other.
Real Chili
This place is a Marquette legend to students, alumni and community members. You got your noodles, you got your chili, you got your cheese. Recipe for happiness and indigestion since 1931.
Sobelman's
Two words: Hangover. Burger.
"Thunder! Na na na na na na na na na!"
Unfortunately long winters.
And after nine months of winter, you'll have your first 70 degree day and be sunburned as red as a lobster.
Valley Fields.
During the few months of school that we actually enjoy warmth, Valley Fields is a great place to catch a MU soccer or lax game.
Wisconsin Avenue.
The main thoroughfare that slices our campus right down the middle, we hate Wisconsin Avenue for making us late to class on occasion, but we love it for giving us up close and personal views of this infamous vehicle.
Zilber Hall
The office that collects all of my tuition dollars. Thanks for that.
