The '90s Are Everything

Plaid, flannel, denim, fun and joy is what the '90s were all about

The '90s Are Everything

The '90s is my favorite decade by far, and maybe it has something to do with being born in the mid-'90s, or maybe it's just my love of nostalgia. But I honestly feel like everyone in my generation loves the 90's; maybe it's just a "Millennial" thing. Perhaps it's our obsession with Polaroid cameras and photographs we love the 90's.

But I feel like the last few years have been very much influenced by the '90s. Those influences being music, fashion, and in television. I feel like the '90s are such a part of our culture in 2016. Everyone loves "Friends," even though most of us were either not born when the show started or were very young when the show started. Everything about the show is amazing. It is relatable and the characters and realistic (for the most part!). There's something for everyone--a character we can all find ourselves in. The show also had a great reflection of '90s fashion. There were really cool fashion moments during "Friends," because each character had their own cool vibes and sense of style. One of my best friends Jackie and I like joke that are like Joey and Phoebe, because I have dark hair like Joey and she's blonde like Phoebe.

Another aspect of the '90s I feel my generation loves is the fashion. I'm not going to lie-- I do love '90s fashion and love the whole vibe. As I said before, plaid is one of my favorite things: I love plaid shirts and plaid pants and to me, nothing says 90's more than plaid! Another thing is denim, denim on denim and destroyed jeans are definitely "in" right now and something that is inspired by the '90s.

Another '90s inspired fashion statement that we all wear today are lots of bold prints. I am definitely a print person, so many of my clothes have bold and fun prints. In the '90s we saw a lot of that and we definitely do today as well.

Another trend that has come back in the last few years are "Dr. Marten" boots, or"Doc Martens." I own a pair of black "Doc Marten" boots and they are my favorite pair of shoes by far. I also just love black combat boots in general and own a few pairs.

Another really cool trend that has made a big comeback is overalls. Especially back in the spring and summer, overalls for both men and women were everywhere in almost every popular store. Even now during the fall, I've seen some cool overalls for men and women in stores. Pilot jackets are also really in and in style. I own a couple of them myself and almost everyone wears them now. They were a big part of '90s fashion as well.

Another style that has come back is that round lens shape for both eyeglasses and sunglasses. It's one of my favorite styles I think it suits most people and it is one of the best lens shapes. It was a part of '90s fashion and is definitely something my generation has embraced today. Turtlenecks are really "in" now and we're big during the 90's too!

'90s music is also one of my favorite genres of music. Everything was great, no matter genre; whether it was Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock or even Dance music. The music just had a different vibe and feel to it. It was simpler than the music we have today and the videos were different; they just made you feel a certain way!

However, beyond fashion and entertainment I feel like the '90s were a time when people were honestly and genuinely happy, carefree, and just enjoying life. I feel like that's the biggest thing we should take from the '90s: be happy and enjoy life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
