In today’s turbulent political climate, it can be hard to know what to think. That’s why I’ve taken an incredibly complex issue involving countless different types of real people with feelings and personalities and compressed it into an easy-to-digest gag at the expense of those I disagree with. Let’s jump right in!
Many were surprised when Donald Trump not only had a chance in but won the 2016 US presidential election. The biggest surprise to me was seeing continued praise being heaped upon him even after the abhorrent way he handled the events in Charlottesville and North Korea.
I couldn’t imagine what type of person could continue to support him. It turns out there are several. You can add these descriptions to your Politics Pok to help you locate each type, but please don’t try to catch any of them. That’s very illegal.
1. The Partisan
The Partisan voted for Trump solely because he was the Republican candidate. Victims of the two-party system, the Partisan’s ideals align with those of the GOP, so they saw no choice but to vote for the GOP's candidate. They can be very hard to find as they are the most silent type of Trump supporter: either because his actions are beginning to make them uneasy or they simply care little for politics.
2. The Optimist
The Optimist saw Trump as a revolutionary opportunity. Energized by cries of “He tells it like it is!” and “Drain the Swamp!”, Optimists believed Trump would banish all corruption from the government and truly Make America Great Again. Some might’ve even identified as liberal, but were so fed up with the way the government ran that Trump seemed like the best choice. Unfortunately, Trump doesn’t tell it like it is; he tells it the way he wants you to hear it. Far too late, many Optimists watched as Trump Drained the water from the Swamp and refilled it with acid.
3. The Bunker
Bunkers are easy to find but difficult to catch—they are unmatched mental gymnasts. Regardless of what Trump says or does, there is a good reason behind it and it is all part of His Plan. Bunkers get their name from their ability to double down and root themselves in convoluted logic to defend their leader. Oftentimes, they analyze Trump’s words more thoroughly than he does. They can often be found arguing on Twitter or browsing /r/The_Donald.
4. The Racist
Thank you President Trump for your honesty & courage to tell the truth about #Charlottesville & condemn the leftist terrorists in BLM/Antifa https://t.co/tTESdV4LP0
— David Duke (@DrDavidDuke) August 15, 2017
People like former KKK Imperial Wizard David Duke are not a majority of Trump’s base but they do make up a good chunk of it. Perhaps this is why it took Trump two days and the desperate begging of his administration to condemn the white nationalists in Charlottesville. After all, white supremacist website “The Daily Stormer,” proud host of articles such as “Heather Heyer: Woman Killed in Road Rage Incident was a Fat, Childless 32-Year-Old Slut,” had some gushing remarks about Trump’s response to Charlottesville:
In case you're wondering if President Trump inspires neo-nazis--this is from their publication The Daily Stormer: pic.twitter.com/cT4OZv7VMP

Racists are the most dangerous type of Trump supporter and are the group he loves to pander to the most. After all, he couldn’t have done it without them.
5. Tear Drinkers
Often found sipping a salty mug of “Liberal Tears,” Tear Drinkers focus every fiber of their being on making liberals mad. Regardless of the issue, Tear Drinkers will side against the left, and loudly. While they might not care much about Trump’s words, actions, and policies, if it angers the left, they’re all for it. Tear Drinkers can be found straw-manning and getting lost in slippery slope fallacies while complaining that “Everything’s too politically correct nowadays. Can’t a guy have an opinion?”
6. The Email Knight
The Email Knight voted for Trump solely to protect the Presidential Office from Crooked Hillary Clinton. Often found forlornly expounding about “a lesser of two evils,” Knights rest easy knowing that the nation is safe from a monster that would use a personal email for work stuff.
7. The Bot
The Bot, such as our friend here, is a being created by someone with a firm belief in “quantity over quality.” Bots can be found replying to Trump on Twitter in long, rambling chains with no relevance to the original tweet. The Bot is the perfect soldier in Trump’s ideological war: cold, unsympathetic, and deaf to reason.
8. The Defectors
Defectors are a special case in that they are no longer Trump supporters. Whether they were disheartened by empty promises, angered by inane Twitter rants, or simply convinced by a peer, Defectors have rejected Trump and regret voting for him.
Countless examples on /r/Trumpgret show that not all initial Trump voters are beyond reason. However, do not mock them. It takes maturity and guts to not only change one’s mind, but to admit to it. Bullying Defectors only discourages doubting Trump voters from switching sides.
And the truth is, we shouldn’t bully anyone. Hatred only deepens the divide and gives ammunition to white nationalist groups and those looking to trivialize anti-Trump complaints. As my initial disclaimer says, these descriptions (except the Racist) are only intended to be an educational joke. A gag. A stereotype.
And possibly, for someone who finds themselves described a little too well, a nudge in the right direction. They are intended to be an attack on Trump supporters’ logic, not them or their personality—something everyone should keep in mind when discussing politics. Attack the logic, not the person.
