The 5 things to do and not to do in college

Here are some things you need to know.

DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT buy your textbooks early

Giphy

Textbooks are expensive, very expensive. Most of the time you might not even use them. You might even drop the class and then have to live with that $300 textbook you bought and don't use, it still hurts. You should wait at least a week or two till you choose to buy your textbook. You might not even use them till the second week. Also, you can save money by looking on Amazon or Chegg instead of your college bookstore because most likely they are overpricing it there.

Look for your classes

Being in a new place can be hard and even scary, especially if you don't know anyone yet. Before the first day of classes go around the campus and find your classes. It can save you a lot of time and panic. The worst thing you will want is to leave the first impression that you're going to be late. You should also before classes get there at least ten minutes early, it can give you time to get your preferred seating and maybe introduce yourself to the professor.

Do not lose your syllabus

The syllabus your professors usually hand out has the whole course planned out. If you might have forgotten something, chances are your professor put it on there. There is also the contact information for your teachers and maybe even the TA.

Join clubs!

I know that joining a club can be frightening but honestly it is the best thing you can do. It forces you to make new friends and if it's apart of your major it gives you better experience. Since I joined a club I have felt a lot better about myself and am doing a lot more thanks to that. It also looks really good if you're looking for a job in that field.

Laundry

Giphy

Always stay on top of your laundry. Make sure you give yourself time to clean and dry your clothes. Most of the time people do not want to wait for someone to come and take their laundry out and might do it for you. Make sure that you go once it's done and switch it into the dryer and get that right when it is done also. Another thing, tide pods will save you a lot of time and money! Just being able to throw that in there and start the wash is the easiest thing to do and less of a hassle.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
