The 3 people you'll meet in college

"What to heck." Those were the first words to come from my mouth on the first day of high school. There were just so many people. There were lots of new interesting smells too. That was only in the hallway though, so when I got to the gym, my mind was blown. How could they make such smells? The smells were nothing compared to the language though. This was quite a lot for a plain Jane 14-year-old like myself to take in on the first day.

Now, as a college student, nothing has changed. My mind is blown several times a day at more than just smells. The people I've met-- the people you'll meet in college, are quite unique.

I've narrowed down a majority of the population into 3 'people.'

1. The Roommate.

They're your first friend- or enemy. You'll either love them or hate them right off the bat, which makes no difference, because you're stuck with them regardless. There's always a little tension when you start to share a room with a stranger, especially if you're not used to sharing space. Besides space you'll indubitably also share food and "household" items such as dishes or laundry detergent. If you're lucky, eventually you'll start to share stories and interests. Either way, they will make quite an impact on you.

2. The Stranger.

You've seen no one like them previously. Of course judging isn't in your nature but you'll subconsciously develop an opinion. They'll help you learn to control your reactions in the face of culture shock or any other shock for that matter. Those smells that I mentioned earlier? They're not necessarily bad, just different. The type of different that'll make you want to scrunch your face. College is a time to find yourself, which is what a lot of people will be doing- or trying to do. Just keep that in mind while in the midst of things/people that are strange to you.

3. The Professor.

Mean professors are the worst.. lets not talk about them. I have a lot of words for the good professors. And by 'good professors' I don't mean the nice ones that don't give homework and require no effort from you. I mean the professors who truly cherish their jobs and teach, not just to cover the curriculum, but to instill relevant and usable knowledge and in their students. The professors who are passionate about their respective subjects. The professors who push you to your full potential, but don't expect the impossible. The professors who want to prepare you for life after college but still understand your shortcomings. This could easily be the person with the most impact on your life.

No article can fully prepare you for college. You just have to go in open-minded, willing to learn, and find your people. The college experience could definitely be just as amazing as the feeling you get when you graduate.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
