The Olympics are possibly the greatest sporting events to take place in history. Millions of people all over the world crowd around their Televisions to witness the best athletes in the world represent their country. Every Olympic event, Winter, and Summer have left its mark in history.

This is possibly the best part about watching an Olympic event, as Olympic or world records are usually broken and reset. Unfortunately, tradition restricts the Olympic games to one summer and one winter Olympic event every four years.

The Olympics started off with traditional sports such wrestling and track and field during the days of the Romans. However, as sports came into existence the Olympics expanded into the enormous sporting event that we see today.

Throughout the history of the Olympics, there have been dozens of changes and modification. For example, there was talk that wrestling was on the brink of being excluded as an Olympic sport which generated a lot of negative feedback. However, when sports such as snowboarding were added popularity of the Olympics grew.

Well, the 2024 Paris Olympics may feature a change that will be unlike anything seen in previous years.

This is because there have been reports stating that the 2024 Paris Olympics may include competitive video games as an Olympic sport, according to Bryan Armen Grahm of The Guardian. This would be huge, as it would bring a whole new audience of people that may not have been interested in the Olympic events before.

Competitive video games are being considered, as it is has a community that is rapidly growing. According to game developer Riot Games, their game, League of Legends, is one the most widely played competitive video games as it generates approximately 67 million players every month. According to Bryan Armen Grahm of The Guardian, League of Legends as well as Dota 2 both hosts competitive tournaments that millions of people tune into and generates millions of dollars.

As the addition of video games to the 2024 Paris Olympics have yet to be finalized there aren't that many people that are aware of the consideration. If the decision to include competitive video games in the 2024 Olympic games than there may be a controversy that follows.

This is because there will be a community of people who embrace the idea of including competitive video games to the 2024 Paris Olympic, while at the same time there will be a community of people on social media who feel as if competitive video games should not be an Olympic event as they don’t fit the typical display of athleticism of tradition Olympic events.

The Olympics stand as possibly the most memorable sporting events in known history. They started off as an opportunity for athletes to showcase their talent in traditional sports such as wrestling as well as track and field. However, as sports evolved so did the Olympic games now featuring extreme sports such as snowboarding. The Olympics including competitive would really help bring the Olympic games closer to our technologically consumed world.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
