For those of you that were musical kids in high school, a strange thing happens around this time of year. You've been busy and haven't really thought about it much until now, but as Facebook and your younger friends from high school remind you, your high school's big show is coming up. Suddenly you feel like there is something missing in your life because you haven't had five hours of rehearsal on Friday nights this semester. Something that had become such a habit in your life over the past few years is suddenly something you are not involved in at all anymore. It's one of the best memories you have of your time at high school, and as you see pictures of cast members rehearsing and the show coming together you begin to remember what you miss most about being in their shoes not so long ago. Among other silly things that are unique to every show you've done, here are a few things you are probably missing:
1. Fidgeting through all of your classes at school on the day of opening night.
2. Having one line in the ensemble but making sure you kill it.
3. The moment when you realize that the show is finally pulling itself together.
4. Pre show rituals.
5. The first time the kissing scene is rehearsed in front of the whole cast.
6. Getting ready before the show with your friends.
7. Full cast dance numbers.
8. Getting compliments from people who you don’t know after the show.
9. Seeing your favorite people come out to watch and support you.
10. The amazing community of people you get to meet and work with.
11. Dressing room dance parties.
12. Taking selfies in costume.
13. Finally throwing away the rehearsal calendar that a few months prior felt like a death sentence.
and most importantly...
14. Acting and dancing on the same stage as your best friends.
Aaaaand last but certainly not least...
