It's November, Halloween is officially over, what's next? Christmas! At least that's what a lot of people think.
Retail stores are the biggest culprits: overnight it goes from Halloween to Christmas everywhere. I'll admit I'm one of them, my tree is up in my living room right now as I type this. Once Halloween is over all of the pumpkins, bats, and spooky decorations come down and the joyful, festive, red and green decorations come out.
However, some may ask, What about Thanksgiving? My answer, what about it? It's the one day of the year where everyone is supposed to be extra nice and thankful for everything they have. We should be thankful every day for being alive and we should be trying our best every day of the year to be the nicest versions of ourselves, not just on Thanksgiving. We shouldn't need a government Holiday to get us to be thankful or get us to be nice to our families.
We celebrate a massacre every year. We are thankful to the founders of our Nation for murdering Native Americans in order to take their land and ultimately give us everything we have today. Without that massacre who knows what our country would be like. That one event has drastically changed the course of our countries history; things would probably be a whole lot different without this major event.
However, we continue to celebrate that day that Native Americans were murdered every year. Who cares if we don't get that excited for this Holiday or decorate for it like we do Halloween and Christmas? After all, it is the anniversary of a massacre, who wants to get excited about that. I'm not saying do away with Thanksgiving all together, I'm just saying why does it matter if you're eating your turkey with your family on Thanksgiving with a Christmas tree up, and Christmas music playing in the background.
