Before we slam the books shut, pack up our bags, and lock our doors for the last time of 2017, I want to thank everyone for making these past 4 months amazing. After getting past the sophomore slump, this semester turned out to be my favorite one yet. Between living off-campus, having a solid friend group, and crafting a schedule with no 8 A.M.s, sophomore year has proven to have perks that last year did not.
First of all, thank you to my best friends. Thank you for the laughs, for the tears, and everything in between. I’m honestly not sure if my favorite nights were the ones when we went out and partied or the ones when we stayed in and snuggled. The fun we had this semester can be measured by the absurd number of cookies we ordered, Ubers we took, and Trillers we made. I know it sounds cheesy, but the memories I’ve created with my friends this semester are ones that I know I will cling throughout the next two months of sitting at home.
Thank you to my friends in my classes. Taking a class with me is not easy because I will probably text you every 5 seconds with questions. But thanks to you, I’m not failing! It has been a blast studying, crying, and learning with you, so thank you. Oh, and thanks for sitting next to me in class even when I drop all my books and make a scene. I’m an embarrassing klutz, so thanks for sitting with me anyway.
Thank you to my roommate. You’re probably at the point where you need to get away from me for a few months, and that’s exactly how I would feel if I were you. But before you go off to Australia for a month, I just want to thank you for being so incredible. Whether it’s coming home to a flood I created with the washing machine, dealing with my boxes from Snap in the trash, or finding my moldy peppers in the fridge that I forgot about, thanks for not getting too frustrated to be my friend. I’m going to miss our 30-minute walks together every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning, that usually consisted of you complaining about being cold and me complaining about sweating. Pro tip: if you have to take a 9 A.M., take it with your roomie!
Lastly, thank you UD. This small, sketchy town of Newark has truly become a second home to me. Yeah, UD Alerts can be quite nerve-racking, but how many college-towns have something like Main Street with so many different restaurants and types of food to choose from?
What other school has their very own Jesus that preaches outside of a lecture hall? Next time you stroll down the Green, take a deep breath and try to take in the beauty of our campus. Sure, you may get a whiff of the farm on South Campus, but the view is incredible. Thanks, UD for creating an atmosphere that makes me excited to wake up and go to classes every day.
