Thank you for helping me through the good and the bad.

Thank You And Goodbye
Abby Engel

This is my last article for Odyssey. Making the choice to be done writing for the Odyssey was not an easy one. I did a lot of thinking and a lot of crying. I spent hours talking to my current president and my current editor-in-chief as well as my previous EIC and vice president about this decision.

After 17 months with this team, this community, this family I learned so much and made so many amazing friends. I laughed and I cried with them. Hell, I even got drunk with them.

They helped me through some rough times and they celebrated some fantastic things with me.

This team was my home here at SVSU for such a long time and I love everyone that has been part of it. Each and every person who has been on this team at any point with me has made an impact on my life in one way or another. I cried when people left the team and I celebrated when people joined us.

As this team rebuilds and tries to get back to being the powerhouse it once was, I will stand on the sidelines and cheer them on. But it is time for me to step back and close another chapter of my book.

In my time with this community, I have seen it at a team of 12 and I have seen it at a team of 35. I have had 2 EIC's. And I have been assigned 3 different people from headquarters to work with my community and my team. I have seen so many of us past and present celebrate when an article was shared by headquarters.

I am grateful for the friends and opportunities this team, community, and family has given me.

As I say goodbye I'm also saying good luck and I love you all.

As I say goodbye I'm also saying thank you.

As I say goodbye I'm also saying I'm still in your corner.

Thank you, Michael, for pushing my articles live and editing them for the majority of my time with this team.

Thank you, Abby and Maddie, for believing in me and giving me a home.

Thank you, Sam and Maddie, for listening to my ideas so that this team can continue to grow.

Thank you and goodbye Odyssey.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
