The Bliss Of Womanhood In The 21st Century

Women are just beautiful. I remember sitting in a coffee shop and saying to my husband, 'I literally think every girl here could be a supermodel.'

I also remember nursing school.

20 something, trying to keep my head afloat in the middle of nursing school. It was like stress times one million and ten, I also remember all of these moms alongside me in class. And I remember thinking about the big old ball I'd be holding if I compacted all my stress into one large circular thing. Then I thought about if I held it up to compare to the obnoxiously larger ball of stress that all these Moms held. To me, they were quite literally not human. How in the world could they study for hours, work 3 days a week, be married, change diapers, run to soccer games, teach their kids how to be people, attend 6 am clinicals, and still manage to stop at Starbucks on the way?

Like, what.

So, here's a toast to all of you women, you moms, you singles, you beloved ones.

It was is not good for the man to be alone; I will make a suitable helper fit for him" (Genesis 2:18).

A helper.

The cultural clash, it sounds wimpy and like a second thought, but I'm hoping to slice this line right in the middle. I want to empower women out of this word and bring light to the meaning of this text. To strengthen your identity, your role, and your initiative. You should know your worth, and the way that the King of Kings views you as His daughter. He has called you, created you, and designed you with perfect intention and hope.

The word helper, in this context, is originally translated from the words ezer kenegdo.

This word Ezer is used 21 times in the Old Testament, and it is referenced in light of vital rescue and support, most often times in light of God's help to His people in battle, famine, hurt, etc. This is what we are called to as women, to bring great aid, assurance, and protection as we fight alongside man. The trait of God is exemplified in us as we encourage, support, strengthen, alleviate, and comfort, as we care for others.

We care for them. And it's true, we have a common tendency to care and to hold compassion, a little bit more gentleness. We have a tendency to care about everything, everyone, every little piece of sugar that's part of someone else.

Kenegdo, or 'for him' meaning corresponding to, face to face, or mate.

God creates a woman to give to the man, a mate that will help sharpen him, keep him, accompany him, and love him in humility. I want to be very careful to remind you that our identity is not left to worship men- adore, idolize, or consume yourself in this role as purpose. We are daughters of the King, designed with His traits to exemplify who He is to others. We are His own and were made with a great capacity to worship God, working as He created us to work.

So let's celebrate being the helper, being the one that cares about even the smallest of details. As we work toward being more like Him, quiet in Spirit, calm in heart, laughing at the days to come, and remembering who we are in Him- a helper, a beautiful, valuable, creative, maker of sweetness that is vital and strengthening to creation. Know your worth as a daughter of the King and celebrate His likeness in you. Even on the days, you can't always be all of that and a handful of roses, know that you are valuable, unique, and made with so much of His own heart.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
