Thankful On Thanksgiving & Everyday
Everyday People

It’s that time of year again where the sun rises a little earlier and sets before anyone has had time to eat dinner. It's that time of year when the leave are falling, and the wind is stronger. The time of year when, in Wisconsin, it’s 70 one day, then 49 the next, that time of year when college students are in need of a break and a home cooked meal. It’s November, and it’s that time of year when we all start being thankful again.

Again. We aren't all the time, but we begin to be... again.

Thanksgiving is great because it is a little reminder of how much we all have to be thankful for, however, we never seem to take the time to be thankful the rest of the year. I am at fault of this too, we all are, but why can’t giving thanks be an everyday occurrence, like saying prayers?

What if your life was to change drastically tomorrow? Did you give thanks for what you have today? Don’t wait for Thanksgiving to be thankful, and don't wait for something bad to happen in order to realize how truly blessed you are. Be thankful everyday, because there are always people who have it worse. I mean, just try to think of all the what if’s.

What if your life was completely different?

What if that was your mother who passed away of breast cancer when you were just a kid?

What if it was your brother or sister that passed away in a car accident?

What if that was your house that burned down?

What if that was your knee that was injured and what if it was your senior season?

What if you lived in Florida and your house was destroyed by a hurricane?

What if that was your sibling’s picture hanging on the "MISSING" bulletin board in the Walmart entryway?

What if you had to go to community meals and the food pantry because you actually needed food, not just volunteer hours?

What if you were never introduced to your faith?

What if you were born into a different family, a different community, and different situation?

What if that was your country being bombed?

What if that was your sister, mother, or girlfriend who was raped?

What if you were in that abusive relationship?

What if things would have worked out?

What if your school was the one in the news for the latest school shooting?

What if your brother was killed in the military? What if you were the one being handed that folded up flag?

What if…

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
