The Top 6 Things I'm Most Thankful For Coming Home

It's really easy to take the little things for granted and after going to school 800 miles away from home, a lot of the little things are what I am most grateful for when coming home on breaks

The Top 6 Things I'm Most Thankful For Coming Home

The first has to be the most obvious

My Parents

Specifically my mom, she does a lot for me and is ALWAYS there for me. I ran all activities, hang out inquiries, and grocery store trips through her for approval. It's crazy going from a really structured, supportive home to a college dorm where I had to find and make that same environment for myself. It's fun to come home, give some hugs, and be able to chill with mom and dad.

With four cats (and lots of cat hair), I always have a buddy when I'm at the house. In a dorm however, that is not the case.

Showering

Let's talk about this one. Shower shoes are NOT optimal in dorm bathrooms. I have seen too many people go into the showers at school with no shower shoes on and other people brazenly walking into the bathroom barefoot in general! Showering in the safety of our own bathroom is a luxury I never thought I would appreciate so much. No shower shoes, no shower caddy, no awkward run ins with your RA or other people on your floor post shower. It's amazing!!!

Driving

This might not necessarily be true for those with cars on campus, but the ease of being able to get into your car and driving to XYZ store or doctor's appointment is a beauty within itself. Especially for my friends that live In CT or general north where it gets ~cold~

Not Hiking To A Dining Hall

While it's nice to have somewhat of a variety of food selections and immediately eating without having to prepare anything yourself, the quality alone of dining hall food is nothing compared to a home cooked meal. Having to get a jacket and put on shoes and getting somewhat put together to go get food is another downside to the whole eating in college thing. Being able to walk out of my room and straight to the fridge, no shoes or jacket required, is a blessing

Sleeping In My Bed

I knew that this one would be pretty basic to include, but nothing compares to a good nights sleep in your own bed. My bed at school is lofted and half the size (both thickness and width) of my bed at home. Not to mention the visits I get throughout the night from cats and the ability to roll over without the fear of falling to my death is pretty dope!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
