Every year at Thanksgiving, my parents make us go around the table and say what we're thankful for. This always results in a competition between my siblings of who can name the best thing (shelter, family, food, college education)...but I've started to think about all the other random things that might go unnoticed. It's not that we're not thankful for them, but they're more like the B-team list of things to be thankful for. The JV to the Varsity list...
1. Mama, I made it!!!
The arrival of Thanksgiving means that you have officially survived (almost) an entire semester without flunking out/dropping out/being kicked out. Yayyy!! The hard part is over...kind of. Congratulations! It's time to celebrate by stuffing your face!
2. Speaking of food, I'm thankful for food.
Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, pumpkin pie, green beans and so much more. Also, no dining hall food...just let that sink in for a moment.
3. No classes. No tests. No studying. No homework.
...Until, of course, we have to come back and take finals, but that's beside the point.
4. Sleeping. In. My. Own. Bed.
Goodbye twin sized, uncomfortable, noisy mattress. Hello, memory foam bed.
5. And of course, I'm most thankful for being able to hang out with the coolest family around.
From the house that they raised me into the state that they visit me in, I could not be more thankful for this group of people.
This Thanksgiving, be extra grateful for the JV things in life. Appreciate the family time, the good food, and the stress free time filled with no school work and great friends.
