We are in the season of slowing down and looking at the world that is currently around us. This is the time of year where we take moments to reflect on what changes the previous year brought us. I enjoy this time of the year the most because it gives me a chance to change my perspective and remember there is more to the world than just me and my problems. It reminds me that I have a lot to be thankful for.
To be specific, I am thankful for all the people that are in my life. The ones who have come and gone, the ones who have stayed, and the ones who have just entered it; I am a believer that everyone is placed into your life for a reason.
The ones who have come and gone in your life are there to make you remember that things aren’t always permanent. They help you learn to be okay with change and growth.
The ones who stay teach you to be grateful for the things you have. The people who are in my life currently are people who are constantly seeing the best in me, especially when I don’t see it in myself. They encourage me to set goals and help guide me through the steps to get there. They motivate me and inspire me to make those goals bigger and better. These are the people whose relationships shape me as a person in the most prominent way.
The ones who are new to your life are also important because they let you discover new things about yourself and the world. They bring new ideas to your attention. They remind me to always have an open mind and to remember to give everyone a chance. People often surprise you.
Being a college student, I am put in a position to really evaluate all three of these categories. It is a time where I have moved away and grown apart from people, but the great memories remain. It is a time where I have realized how much I cherish and need the people that are currently in my life. It is also a time where I am constantly meeting new people who are changing my perspective and opening my eyes to new opportunities.
This is why I am thankful for every person who is and has been in my life.
