22 Things You Should Thank Your Mom For

I can’t even imagine life without my mom by my side, through thick and thin. Moms are basically superheroes, and I don’t think we thank them enough for the times they come to our rescue. Here are some of the things you should thank your super-mom for (though this doesn't even scratch the surface):

1. Taking extra good care of you when you are sick

Mom knows just how to make you feel better—with hugs, hot tea, homemade comfort food, ice cream, and more.

2. Endlessly supporting you

No matter what, Mom will support you with everything she's got. She will pour her heart out to you to make sure you know you have someone in your corner, always.

3. Being your biggest fan

Going along with supporting you, Mom is your number one fan. She thinks you are inarguably the world’s greatest child and believes that anyone who thinks otherwise was dropped on their head when they were little.

4. Cooking scrumptious food

"Mommm, is it ready?" you ask in a whiny voice for the umpteenth time. Despite your incessant nagging, she continues to whip up the tastiest dishes day after day, making sure to include all of your favorites. (And she'll make enough for an army.)

5. Giving the best hugs and being the best cuddle buddy

It is a known fact that a hug from your mama bear will ease any worries instantly.

6. Imparting knowledge to you

They've been around a little longer than you, so listen when they give you advice, and heed it.

7. Always, always being there for you

You are two hours away and need a ride or a shoulder to lean on? Mom will be there as fast as she can, her super-mom cape billowing in the wind behind her.

8. Being the best listener

Mom is always enraptured by what you have to say, even if you are simply describing what you had for breakfast, complaining about homework, or recounting your misadventures.

9. Belting out songs with you in the car

Mom is not afraid to unleash her inner-JLo. And when old raps come on from her childhood, you'd better be prepared for her to get funky.

10. Calling you beautiful even when you just rolled out of bed

To Mom, you always look like a radiant goddess. Thanks for the moral support, Mom!

11. Forgiving you no matter what

Mom will forgive you in a heartbeat when you make mistakes or say things you wish you hadn’t. She will never hold a grudge against you.

12. Entertaining you by not understanding phones

From trying to zoom in on Instagram (back when that wasn’t a thing) to sending over dozens of unrelated emojis and odd texts, Mom knows just how to crack you up.

13. Constantly being concerned about your well-being

Have you slept enough? Why do you look tired? Are you eating properly? It may be annoying in the moment, but it just means she cares.

14. Taking you shopping

She knows exactly what suits you best, and will be honest when things don't cut it.

15. Liking/commenting on all of your Facebook posts

And sometimes she'll like a ton of your friends' posts as well.

16. Texting you every day (or almost every day) just to check in or say good night and tell you that she loves you

17. Telling you how proud of you she is all the time

Her pride never ceases and never wanes. It’s unwavering and eternal.

18. Getting interested in the things you like

She'll try to learn about your favorite show, even if she doesn't like it, just so that she can talk about with you.

19. Being goofy with you

The laughter never ends.

20. Letting you "borrow" her clothes

By borrow, I mean steal, since that pair of cute shoes may never be seen by her again, except on your feet.

21. Defending and protecting you at all costs

No one will ever hurt you, not on her watch.

22. Being the "cool mom"

I'm not going to lie, some of my friends might like hanging out with my mom more than me.

Mom, you are hands down the most wonderful woman in the universe. You do countless things for me, smiling all the while. I may not always say it, but I am immensely grateful for you and all that you do. I love you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
