13 Things I Want To Thank My Family For This Holiday Season
Lauren Nelson
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

To my wonderful family...

1. Thank you for supporting me.

I am blessed beyond measure to be a part of a family that supports every decision. They are always there to let me know that, through the good, the bad, and the ugly, support is endlessly coming my way. I don't know how they do it, but I hope they know I am supporting them, too.

2. Thank you for honest, sincere advice.

Sometimes I don't want to hear it; but you don't care. I will admit that I am a very stubborn young lady. I don't always want to hear the truth, but I do appreciate the cold, harsh words sometimes. I know I might not show it, but at the end of the day, I trust your instinct.

3. Thank you for letting me make mistakes.

After giving me the cold, hard truth, my stubbornness might still shine through. That's when making mistakes and getting hurt happens. But you let me do it, and you are there to pick me back up afterward. How blessed am I?

4. Thank you for giving me money when I run out.

As a college student, money is not something that comes in large amounts. I am more than appreciative of you paying for my meals when my bank account is getting low. No matter how much of a crunch you're in, you always lend enough money to help me make it through.

5. Thank you for raising me.

Mom and Dad you raised me, of course. But to my sisters who are 6 and 8 years older than me, thank you for always helping out. The two of you were always there to teach me life's lessons/ Thank you for babysitting and helping me learn things Mom and Dad couldn't teach.

6. Thank you for talking to me every single day.

Maybe this isn't normal for some families, but we talk everyday. Whether it's just to talk about our day or a simple "I love you" reminder, we're in constant contact. It would be odd for us to go days without talking, texting, FaceTiming, or Snap Chatting. I'm thankful for that.

7. Thank you for letting me cry.

We all cry, but there are certain people that let you cry and certain people who look down on you for crying. Y'all are always there to lift me up. We are emotional, in the very best way of course. We cry when we are very sad, we cry when we are very happy, we cry when we are very stressed. We don't cry often, but when we do, we know that we can help each other through it. Sometimes that shoulder to cry on is very important.

8. Thank you for making countless memories.

Whether it's our yearly beach trip, our spontaneous trips back to our hometown, or visiting one another, we are always making memories. We love to take pictures and laugh about silly things.

My family has already made enough memories to last a lifetime, but we are always ready to make many more.

9. Thank you for singing in the car.

My sisters and I have always been into music and singing. We are avid car singers and we take pride in every second of it. Don't get us started on songs that we sang in chorus, we will harmonize and belt with everything inside of us. It's truly a performance worth watching.

10. Thank you for teaching me.

Growing up as the youngest by 6 and 8 years definitely has its pros. I am so thankful for you, my sisters, for teaching me almost everything I know. Whether it's how to be a good friend, how to take advice with a grain of salt, how to be a teacher, or how to take extra long naps; you two have always been the first to teach your little sister.

11. Thank you for listening.

I can be a lot sometimes, I know. Thank you for letting me vent when I am going through a breakup, having a bad day, or just need someone to listen to every detail of my day. You all have always been my first call, and I hope I can be yours too.

12. Thank you for loving me.

This seems like it would be an easy task, but I know that sometimes life gets in the way. I know that no matter what we go through individually, we will always come back together to celebrate our love and strong bonds. I am speechless when trying to describe how much I love all of you.

13. Thank you for being my very best friends.

We don't realize how lucky we are. Being best friends with your family doesn't happen to everyone. We are each other's go-to people; I love that. Thank you for being my very best friends.

Not every family has a family like ours. We don't get along all the time, and we don't always see eye to eye, but that's okay.

I love y'all with my entire heart. Thank you for everything.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
