First of all, I'm very guilty of what I'm about to talk about, so this is also a reminder to myself.
Right now, think of something that you might not absolutely love about yourself.
For me, it's my stomach and my thighs.
Now think about this, what is that body part for? Does it do its job?
Well, my stomach digests food, holds my organs, and is fully functional. My thighs help me walk, go on adventures, and do everything I love. So why don't I appreciate that?
Why can't I be happy with the fact that my stomach is helping me stay alive? It's time to stop hating my body parts and start appreciating the fact that they work. So many people are ashamed of their bodies and that is not okay.
It's okay to want to improve on yourself for health reasons, whether those are for physical or mental health. It is not
It's time to focus on your body's strengths and abilities, and stop focusing on the mirror image of your body. The appearance of your body is not as important as self-love and being empowered.
"You don't owe prettiness to anyone. Not to your boyfriend/spouse/partner, not to your co-workers, especially not to random men on the street. You don't owe it toyour mother, you don't owe it to your children, you don't owe it to civilization in general. Prettiness is not a rent you pay for occupying a space marked 'female.'" - Erin McKean
So next time you think of everything you want to change about yourself, make sure you want to change it to better yourself and out of love for yourself. Hate isn't empowering.
Thank your body.
