Earlier today, I read an article online about how Sam Carter, lead singer of the band "Architects," witnessed a woman being sexually assaulted at his concert on Friday in the Netherlands and did something about it. This is a thank you letter to him.
Dear Mr. Carter,
You know the saying “see something, say something”? Well, I want to thank you for being a part of the one percent who does, in fact, say something. Sexual harassment and sexual assault are serious issues which need to be addressed; by you calling out the individual who sexually assaulted a female crowd surfer at your concert, you are helping bring this issue to light.
According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network) someone experiences sexual assault every 98 seconds in America alone. This statistic is mind boggling to me. For some stupid reason people don’t seem to have the brain capacity to understand that sexual assault is not only wrong, it’s a crime.
I am one of the lucky ones; I have never been a victim, but I do know people who have not been so lucky. Mr. Carter, during your statement you not only brought shame onto the individual who grabbed that young lady’s breast, but you helped victims to see that their assault was not their fault. You helped victims realize that their actions did not give their assailant the right to commit the crime they did.
So, Mr. Carter, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for saying something about sexual assault. Thank you, on behalf of all victims and future victims, for letting the world know that no one has the right to another individual's body.
Sincerely,
Someone who despises sexual assailants
