I grew up listening to The Spice Girls, Brittany Spears, and *NSYNC. I went through a phase of only listening to stuff I heard my brother listening to, which was a wide range of music from Linkin’ Park to Nelly and everything in between. But somewhere along the way, Carrie Underwood won American Idol and my life was forever changed. I was raised in Center City, Philadelphia. There is not a country bone in that city. But, I found it in myself somehow and since then, I have never been surer of an industry I would want to have a forever career in.
I moved to Nashville for College in hopes that I would make it as a songwriter. I gave up that dream faster than it takes to brush my teeth in the morning. Nevertheless, I found myself wanting to preserve the talent in songwriters within the country music industry. This past summer I was honored to accept an internship with Warner Music Nashville and my life has since been changed. The Country Music Industry is where I want to be.
From working with people who have come from all over the world with the same aspirations as my own, and getting to work with artists that are so freaking humble, the country music industry has given me a place to call home. All summer, Warner Music gave me opportunities that it’s hard to believe I would ever receive anywhere else. I was held to the standard of an employee and with that I was given tasks that gave me hands-on experience in the industry.
From Johnny Cash to Thomas Rhett and everyone in between, country artists have preserved some meaning in everyone's day-to-day life. When I turn on a country song, I’m listening to a story… a story that someone felt so passionately about that they put it down on paper and turned it into a beautiful work of art. I’ve witnessed words of chicken scratch transform into #1 hits on the Radio. And I have to tell you, it is such a beautiful thing watching songs come to life.
With traditions like the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall Of Fame to remind us of the history that surrounds this beautiful industry. Country Music is more alive than ever.
The industry has it’s ups and it’s downs just like any other, but at the end of the day… it is one big family. Everyone comes together to create one of the most humble, kind, and respected genres of music ever in existence. Country Music is about the music. It’s about the fans. It’s about the love for what you do. I love Country Music. I never thought I, a city girl from Philadelphia, would ever say those words, but here I am. I have never been more proud to be pursuing a career in this industry. Thank you Warner Music Nashville. Thank you Country Music.
