A Thank You To My High School Teachers
Rachael Hearne

Dear teachers,

Thank you for the impact that you’ve had on my life. Teachers like you are few and far between, and I’ve been lucky to have teachers that care about me so much. You were an amazing teacher, role model, and friend to me throughout my high school years. I am very confident in saying that I would not be the same type of student, or person, that I am today had you not been in my life. So here’s me saying thanks for just a few of the many things you’ve done for me across the years.

First, I want to say thank you for being such a great teacher. Teachers have such an important job and responsibility to their students. There are a lot of teachers out there that get the job done, but there aren’t a lot of teachers that invest in their students beyond the classroom. I was fortunate to have a lot of wonderful teachers in high school, but I know that is not the same for every student. Now that I’m in college, I have even fewer teachers that will invest the kind of time and care into their students outside of the classroom. So thank you for being that kind of teacher. Now I appreciate it even more than I was ever able to in high school.

Following that, thank you for spending more time with us than you had to. All the time spent talking after school and early in the morning made me look forward to going to school everyday. Also thank you for sponsoring our activities and clubs. Whether it was Fellowship of Christian Athletes or Newspaper or anything else, I appreciate all the extra time you devoted to us by leading these groups. You weren’t required to spend as much time with us as you did, and I don’t think I have ever said thank you for that. Every wonderful moment I had through these activities was possible because of you and your commitment to us.

Thank you for being an amazing role model. I remember countless times in high school where my best friend and I would be talking about how happy we would be if we could be just like you. You are so selfless and caring. To this day, you’re still an inspiration to me and an influence on how I live my life. I’m so blessed to have had such a wonderful person to look up to every day. I hope that every student has at least one teacher in his or her life like you, because it really makes a difference. It made all the difference in my life.

If I kept listing all of the things that I’m thankful for it would go on and on, so I just want to say an overall thank you, for everything you’ve done. All of the help, advice, and support over the years helped shape who I am today. I’m very sure that high school would’ve been a lot harder without a teacher like you. As much as I miss sitting in your classroom everyday, I love seeing your posts and keeping up with your life. I hope that one day I can have the type of impact on someone that you’ve had on me.

Thanks again, for everything.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
