Mr. Lucas,
I must have been very young when I first visited your galaxy far, far away, since one of my earliest memories is being most purely in love with Luke Skywalker. I remember as a little girl hoping I would grow up to be brave and beautiful like Princess Leia; I remember taking to heart the wisdom of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan and Master Yoda; and most of all, I remember believing with all of my soul that Anakin would be redeemed, seemingly against all reasonable hopes.
Yours was the first story in my life to expand beyond the realm of fiction. Still, after all these years, I believe in the Light Side as you portrayed it. I want you to know that I didn't just enjoy your story as a child; your story was and is indescribably influential to my understanding of right and wrong. You should know that your characters have always felt like real friends, real role models.
You should know that you are exactly the creator I aspire to be. Your vision, your imagination, and your devotion to creating and evolving Star Wars continues to inspire me to come up with my own stories. I hope you know that you have made a contribution to the world far above and beyond the realm of commercial success. Most of all, I really hope you are proud.
Because of your story, I choose to be someone who values selflessness, bravery, sacrifice, peace, and hope. Your story of redemption through unconditional love is especially meaningful in this world where people like to hold grudges without considering mercy.
I just want to say that I am eternally grateful to you for being one of the first people to introduce me to the remarkable world of storytelling and, in a broader sense, to the constant battle between light and darkness within every person.
May the Force be with you.
