Thank You To My College Roommate Of Two Years (And Counting)
Brittany Geier

Dear Roomie,

We've made it through two years together, and what a ride it's been! My first two years of college were amazing, but they couldn't have been half as thrilling without you by my side.

From day one, I knew we would be friends. Though I was nervous to meet you after months of only conversing through emails and texts, you instantly put me at ease with your kind smile and friendly demeanor. I knew from our first “hi" that you and I would get along just fine – and it's certainly turned out better than I ever hoped!

Our first month as roommates was quite a bit of trial and error as we both got used to navigating the academic, social, and personal lifestyles of college. We were buddies and hung out a lot together from the beginning, but we finally reached a point where we bonded even more and became best friends.

Since then, our friendship has only strengthened, and together we've persevered through our first two years of college and look eagerly ahead to the rest. That being said, as I reflect on our time together, I have a lot to thank you for – more than I could ever make up to you!

Thank you for always being willing to do simple things together, whether it's lunch between classes or ice cream at 10 pm. You make even the little things a million times more exciting just by being there, and it always makes me smile when you want to hang out.

Thank you also for introducing me to new things and pushing me to try things I may not have otherwise. Because of you, I've gotten to appreciate Southern culture, try tea for the first time, and experience riding in the back of a truck. I tend to play things safe, but you've encouraged me to step beyond my comfort zone and have even more fun than I would without you.

And thank you for always listening to me and being there for me when things are stressful. Your support means more than I could ever say, and you've helped me make it through in one piece. School is stressful for both of us, but you never fail to take time for me and help me feel better – no matter how busy you are! For that, I could not be more grateful.

There is so much more I should thank you for, but the list would be never-ending. Thank you for proofreading my essays and research papers, even though I'm often analyzing literature that you've never read before. Thank you for bonding with me over the things we have in common – a love of literature, music, fandoms, and ice cream, to name a few. And thank you for balancing me out in those areas where we differ – I like mint flavor and whipped cream while you don't, and you like sweet tea and spicy foods while I don't.

Most of all, thank you for sticking with me through it all and wanting to stay with me through our next two years. I don't know what will happen in the future, but I know you'll always be there.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
