Carrie Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016, following a medical emergency four days earlier. Fan and celebrities alike paid tribute to this wonderful woman who spent her life fighting for mental health and substance abuse awareness. Daughter of legendary actress Debbie Reynolds, Fisher had been in the spotlight of Hollywood since she was a baby. Fisher became a very prominent actress when she stared as Princess Leia Organa in Star Wars Episode IV at the age of 19. She reprised her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode V, VI, and VII. Before her death she finished filming Star Wars Episode VIII.

The Star Wars franchise is one of the largest grossing movie franchises today and continues to bring in fans and money around the world. With the death of iconic star Carrie Fisher, fans have paid tribute to her in many ways. At Disney Springs down in Orlando, Florida, fans raised their lightsabers to the sky.

Fans made an impromptu star for Carrie Fisher on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and have covered it with flowers to show their love for the Space Princess and all that she meant to them.

Fisher's portrayal of the strong princess from the fictional planet of Alderaan has impacted Star Wars fans around the world. Princess Leia deceived Darth Vader in her first appearance in the movies to believe that she never had possession of the plans for the Death Star, while actually sending them off of her spaceship in order to give them to the Rebellion. She was the strong female character that women needed to see. She held her own in a war that was raging across a galaxy and put the two men she traveled through space with in their place. In Episode VIII: The Force Awakens, we discovered that Princess Leia had risen to become a general in the new rebellion against the First Order.

Carrie Fisher continued to be the strong Space Princess both on-screen and off-screen. She did not keep her personal struggles secret from the world. Fisher wanted the world to know that everyone has problems and those problems need to start being addressed by the world to make a difference. To show how grateful fans were to their Space Princess, many have started creating their own tributes.
