Professors are a different kind of species. Some are sweet little angels and others are definitely working for the devil. For a freshman, it's the most terrifying thing to have such an angry professor for one of your very first college classes. It's hard enough learning all the ropes of college without having the professor add to it.
During my very first semester in college, I called my mom to tell her I needed to drop my computer class because the professor was evil and I would never make it. She told me to stay in it because it would get better. I'm glad she told me to stay in it because now it's over and I never have to take that class again, but my professor, she was still extremely mean. I felt particularly sorry for the international students who would ask her questions after class. She would go on a rant about how they should know already or ask another student. It wasn't their fault, they were trying to learn English and she would talk extremely fast and barely ever waited for her students to catch up.
A professor should be willing to help, especially when the student is actually trying to learn.
I'll never forget how scared I was to ask her anything and how I would either ask a student and hope they knew the answer or just move on and let it go. As students, most of us are really trying to gain something from each class and we're hoping our professors are also wanting to invest in our futures and see us succeed in their class.
On the other hand, I understand it's good to have professors who will push you to learn and really try in their classes. Some students don't care, but they should still be able to feel comfortable talking to their professor. A student shouldn't leave class with an unanswered question just because they're scared of the professor.
So, to the professors who make class enjoyable by truly being helpful to their students, you are the absolute best and will always be remembered. Thank you. Maybe the other, less kind professors could take some notes.
