A Thank You Letter To "My People"
Ysmael Reyes

Dear “My People,”

You know who you are.

Thank you for laughing at my jokes, both the funny ones and the “take the L” ones.

Thank you for being there for me when I’m sad and I need you to tickle me until I impulsively kick you in the face.

Thank you for sharing a whole carton of low-fat chocolate brownie ice cream with me on those days where I wanted to eat gluttonously and not feel guilty about it.

Thank you for holding my hand when I simply needed to know you were there.

Thank you for always being there, relentlessly and wholeheartedly.

Thank you for wiping the tears from under my eyes when I cried over the death of that groundhog someone ran over on the side of the road.

Thank you for wiping all the tears before and after that.

Thank you for hugging me when my typical neediness kicks in and I am in desperate need of human embrace.

Thank you for pretending you are Bradley Cooper when you do this.

Thank you for belting out those songs that we know all the lyrics to.

Thank you for belting out the ones that we know every other lyric to.

Thank you for spotting me when I forget my wallet in my car.

Thank you for reminding me that I am a “hot mess” a large percentage of the time.

Thank you for telling me I’m hot when that person I can’t stop thinking about makes me feel like I am not.

Thank you for making me feel exceptionally great.

Thank you for staying on the phone with me when I can’t fall asleep and I need a distraction.

Thank you for listening to my stories that never seem to go anywhere but always seem to put a smile on your face.

Thank you for flashing that smile, that warm and comforting smile that never fails to make my day.

Thank you for cooking me eggs for breakfast on those days where I am simply too lazy to do it myself.

Thank you understanding my obsession for coffee.

Thank you for accepting my other obsessions you do not understand, especially the one with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Thank you for giving me advice when I am irrationally leaning towards making the wrong decisions.

Thank you for consistently being honest and never failing to tell me how you feel.

Thank you for sharing your feelings, whether they are happy or sad.

Thank you for never holding back.

Thank you for embarrassingly dancing with me in public settings and “feeling yourself” when we do.

Thank you for dancing constantly and “until the break of dawn!”

Thank you for “just wanting to dance.”

Thank you for telling me I look good in that outfit I am too insecure to go out in.

Thank you for suppressing my insecurities and boosting my self-confidence.

Thank you for the late nights we spent driving until I forgot where we’re going.

Thank for never letting me get lost.

Thank you for cheering me on, showing your support, and loving every minute of it.

Thank you for being what makes me who I am.

Thank you for anything and everything that keeps me going.

Thank you.

Without you, I am empty. Without you, I am nothing. Without you, I am missing my whole heart.

Happy Thanksgiving.

With Massive Amounts of Unconditional and Weirdly Emotional Love,

Annabel

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
