To The Friend Group I’d Only Dreamt Of, Thank You

My dearest friends,

A lot happened during my first year of college. From joining a sorority to taking my first set of college courses, I’ve done a lot and made a lot of memories along the way. In looking back on the best memories from this year, I’ve noticed that most of them have one commonality — they were with you.

You have been the single best part of my college experience and I could not imagine going through it without you. Because of this, I want to say thank you.

Thank you for taking me out of my comfort zone.

I’ve never been one to be spontaneous or actively seek adventure. I have my comfort zone and I’m happy staying in it. This changed when I met you. You encouraged me to go to places and do things that I definitely wouldn’t have on my own. You were there for me when I wanted to back away from these experiences and encouraged me to push through. As a result, I created some awesome memories.

Thank you for the laughs.

I never imagined a group of weird, crazy people that work so well together. Whether it’s through memes, stories, or witty remarks, you never fail to make me laugh or bring a smile to my face. You definitely keep me entertained and I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend with you.

Thank you for motivating me.

Each of you is so special in your own way. From being talented at music to being able to talk to a brick wall, you have so many gifts. I love watching you use these gifts because they motivate me to reach for my highest of goals and give 100% in everything I do. You are my inspiration.

Thank you for supporting me.

College is not always easy. There were times when all I wanted to do was stay in bed all day or hug my mom. These times were hard, but not nearly as hard as they would’ve been without you.

Your acts of bringing me a milkshake or simply hugging me when I was down helped me in ways you will never even know. You are my support system at college and I like to think I am yours as well. I could not have gotten through the hardest days without you.

Thank you for being my family away from home.

It’s not common to be able to call someone your family after only knowing them a year. However, I feel as if I can confidently call you my family. I believe family is those that will love you no matter what, and I know I will always love you. Even if our friendships fade in years to come, I will always love you because of everything you’ve given me.

You have given me friendships that, before coming to college, I could not have dreamed of. I simply do not know a group of more fun, loving, and inspiring individuals.

Thank you for giving me the best freshman year possible.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
