19 Times My Mother Proved She Should Have Her Own Holiday

A few weeks ago my mom sent me this article about a book that she felt we could relate to. Kate Siegel's book, "Mother, Can You Not?" was inspired by the crazy texts that she and her mother exchange daily about their various life adventures, from gynecology visits to what to cook on Thanksgiving Day. To a certain level, I think we can all relate to Kate Siegel's relationship with her mom, and with Mother's Day coming up, I decided to look back on the encouraging, honest, and borderline ridiculous texts between me and my own mother. From that, I came up with a list of some of the best things about our moms.

1. She's hip, almost too hip.

Honestly this was way better than the countless Snapchat stories from the people actually my age.

2. She focuses on the important things in life.

Sadly, he didn't make the selfie, but I'll be sure to stop him next time.

3. She stays up to date on my love life (or at least tries to).

Come on boys, leave those Instagrams public so our moms can judge you on our behalf.

4. She keeps me at my best.

Who says the Dollar Shave Club is just for men?

5. She's always there when I'm in need.

Don't... mention... the... mustard... incident. (Thank you Tame Style Bar for saving the day that morning.)

6. She keeps it real.

Check out my non-bitter (to the best of my ability at least) version of that article here.

7. She, always, keeps it real.

Don't get mad, don't get sad, get glad.

8. She is my own personal weather app.

Again, let's not speak of the mustard incident.

9. She is honest.

Update: She said I was slightly less of a dork when she realized I drew that Batman mask with eyeliner and that I was dressed up for an event and not just for fun, but still a dork nonetheless.

10. She knows how to describe how we all feel.

Having a bad day, Mom?

11. She has an explanation for everything.

Making weird days a little less weird since 1996.

12. She has an overreaction to even out your under-reaction.

I wish I remembered what this was about.

13. She can find the perfect the E-Card.

Still my phone background to this day.

14. She looks on the bright side.

How do things keep circling back to this?

15. She reminds me to put my best foot forward.

Conceal... don't feel... don't let them know...

16. She keeps me in mind.

Whether that "omg" is excitement or judgement is up to all of you.

17. She loves animals.

Basically a dog whisperer.

18. She has the best ideas.

Haven't gotten around to writing this one...I'll be sure to let you all know when I do.

And finally,

19. She likes to keep private.

Happy Mother's Day to all the helicopter moms out there, we couldn't do it without ya!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
