I asked my parents 20 questions to see how well they knew me, and here's how it went.

1.) What's my favorite food?

Dad: Steak

Mom: Macaroni

Me: You both are wrong, it's watermelon.

2.) What's my favorite coffee?

Dad: Starbucks

Mom: Starbucks (caramel macchiato with the drizzle thing)

Dad: Yeah I got that right

Me: I was going to say pumpkin spice latte but I do get that more often so I'll give you that to you, Mom.

3.) What insect do I hate?

K: Spider. What do they call them?

Mom: Arachnids?

Dad: Yeah those things.

Mom: Spider

Me: Yes, it is spiders.

4.) If I could be anything in this life what would it be?

Dad: Judge

Mom: President

Me: I'm going to give Dad that point. I was going to say either a Supreme Court Judge or an NFR world champion, but president would be pretty cool, too.

5.) Who do I idolize?

Dad: Ummm...Bobby Knight, Aunt Stephanie

Mom: Well I think it's Lord, then some president, then your momma.

Me: Well...kind of. I was going to say my parents, but I guess you're both right.

6.) Where do I want to live when I'm older?

Dad: Hometown in Indiana

Mom: On your hometown ground

Me: Yes, you are both right.

(Easton (boyfriend) chimes in: in an old nursing home with drama.)

7.) After I graduate from Miami what do I want to do?

Dad: Go to Bloomington and get your law degree

Mom: Get your law degree

Me: Yes to both.

8.) Where do I want to go for grad school (two 2 choices)?

Dad: Somewhere in North Carolina and was UPenn but you didn't like that...

Mom: *jumps in* IU AND DUKE I GOT IT RIGHT

Me: Yeah, mom gets that one.

9.) Who are three of my best friends?

(Easton starts jumping up and down to answer)

Dad: Maci, Lexy, your sister can't be one, Gracie

Mom: Abbi, your parents, Easton, Samantha

Dad: I took family out. Unfair.

Me: I will give you both a point on that one, they are all my best friends.

10.) If I were to get a new car, what would I get?

Dad: If you were smart you'd get a new bronco. But you'd get a rear-engine paddle-shift zo6 corvette.

Mom: I was also gonna say that corvette the same but also a Bugatti.

Me: I'm giving dad that one. He was more specific.

11.) What's one thing I do when I get nervous or anxious?

Dad: Whine.

Mom: You do that bouncy thing with your leg.

Me: Yes Mom, you're right.

12.) Do I snore?

Dad: Sometimes.

Mom: Yes.

Me: No, I do not!

(Easton: Yes you snore and whenever you're not you breathe like shriek. Kind of like a whale blowing out of their blowhole.)

13.) Horror movies or comedies?

Dad: Comedies

Mom: Comedies

Me: You both are right.

(Easton: comedy's but you prefer the notebook *I've never seen the notebook*)

14.) Going out or staying in?

Dad: Going out

Mom: Depends on the season and where you're at, but overall staying in.

Me: Probably staying in.

15.) Am I superstitious?

Everyone: YES *then they start making fun of me*

16.) What is something I do every year around the holidays?

Dad: Make noodles

Mom: Fast before every meal

Me: Dad gets that one. It's making noodles.

Mom: SERIOUSLY YOUR DAD GETS THAT ONE! YOUR DAD WOULD NEVER KNOW YOU FAST. THAT IS NOT FAIR. If your dad wins this I'm not speaking to you for a week.

17.) What is my favorite holiday?

Dad: Christmas

Mom: Thanksgiving

Me: It's Thanksgiving

18.) Do I trust easily?

Dad: No.

Mom: Heck no.

Me: Correct.

19.) What do I hate more than anything else in this world?

Dad: Spiders.

Mom: Spiders. Liars. Cheaters.

Me: You both are wrong, it is spit noises and people chewing with their mouths open.

20.) What's my favorite book?

Dad: Pff John Grissom. Idk. Minecraft.

Mom: Ummm it's that gold book on your shelf. I need to go look. Crap. Not Minecraft. The beautiful one on your shelf.

Me: You mean The Odyssey?

Mom: OH RIGHT.

Me: Yes, that is correct.

Overall, both my parents know me extremely well, and I am so blessed to have them both.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
