Before I even begin with the content of this article, I want to make clear to everyone that I am not very politically educated. I have never had an interest in politics because personally I have a hard time wrapping my head around between what is right and wrong due to all of the angles you can approach a specific viewpoint from. I would also like to say that this has nothing to do with a specific party affiliation.
So, here America stands, at the trail end of 2016, and our choice of a president really came down to Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Donald Trump took the win.
I knew if I got on social media that I would see people extremely excited to see he had won the election and a lot of people extremely upset about the result. Regardless of the very differing opinions I knew I would see pop up on my screen, I knew I would see opinions of the people who don't make much sense to me at all, and those people are the fellow people of my generation.
I am terrified. Our generation is made up of some people who believe that every kid on the soccer team should receive a trophy just for participating. Hard work is no longer recognized like it used to be. Now what is "fair" is to pool everyone in to the same group and throw above and beyond achievement out the window because it is offensive.
I am terrified. Some people have forgotten this idea of "if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything". Now, it is normal to think and accept that things can simply be handed to us. I disagree with that. Wholeheartedly; 100 percent. I do not care what your ethnicity, family history, location, or political view is, if you want something you have to work for it. End of story. Now, I understand that I have to look at this from both sides. I understand that people are born 100 percent unlucky. I understand people are born with disabilities. And it is unfair for them, and, under no circumstance do I believe they should be punished for that or looked down on.
I know, because of this article, some people might hate me for it, just because I have an opinion that they do not like. I may feel a certain way, just like I expressed in my above statements, but in no way does it change my opinions of people that I know and love. Their opinions may differ from mine and that is absolutely okay. Just because you have an opinion, and you are offended by someone else's, doesn't mean you are right.
I am terrified. This morning I woke up to meaningless, hateful posts that are irrelevant and only make the situation worse. It hurts me to see people throwing temper tantrums like 2 year-old's over who the next president is. It hurts me to see us dividing. Dividing more and more with each hour that passes.
I am terrified. Instead of respecting authority we are encouraged to go against them. We have taken a 180 degree flip from where this nation has started. We have spat on the ideology that this great nation was founded on. And we have disrespected our founding fathers. We have come to believe more of what a celebrity tweets than our elders who have served in our military.
I am verified, but I have faith, and I have hope in what we should all come to support:
It's the flag.
It's the red, the white, and the blue.
It's the men and women that lay their lives down on the line to save ours everyday.
Its the Pledge of Allegiance.
It's America.
It's all of these factors that we have forgotten about just to defend a candidate of our affiliated party.
Those colors, those men and women, that pledge, and that flag is what is important.
One nation.
Under GOD.
INDIVISIBLE.
with...
LIBERTY and JUSTICE FOR ALL.
Please, people of America never forget this.
Please never forget that anything is possible.
Please don't forget that handwork is so, so very important.
And please, do not forget, that God is watching over all of us, and in the end, He will have it handled. (and yes, I do understand that although I believe God has it handled that it does not change the outcome of the election, but I have faith, and if everyone else does as well, then hope should follow right behind)
United we stand.
We the People.
May God Bless America and all who inhabit it.
