10 Things I Constantly Say To My Roommate

My roommate and I have been together since August of last year and lived in the dorms together at school. We've laughed, we've cried, and we have talked about books a lot. Together we have conquered classes and tests while simultaneously failing at simple tasks like grocery shopping, but since we have lived in the same room for almost a year, there are bound to be things that we say constantly to each other. I have narrowed it down to a list of ten things I often say to my roommate.

1. Do you want to go to Moe's?

We lived on campus at Mississippi State University and we had a Moe's right down the street from us. At Moe's, you can get a large bag of chips and queso for about $4, so after class, it was a lovely place to get a snack that filled you for hours.

2. Let's skip class, I don't want to go.

My roommate and I are college students so it is expected that we skip class sometimes. I constantly ask her "Am I a piece of garbage if I don't go to my developmental psychology class today?" It gets even worse when we have classes together because we strategically figure out when we can skip so the other person can take notes for the other.

3. Sorry my side of the room looks so messy.

With 16-17 hours of class plus homework and extra curricular means that sometimes, my side of the room will not be the cleanest. There are times when my clothes aren't folded, my bed unmade, and papers strewn around my desk, and when those times happen, I just apologize and my roommate understands. It's nice not to be judged when I'm having a rough week.

4. Let's get Denny's!

If you look back at my previous article, you can see that I wrote a thank you letter to Denny's, thanking them for everything they have done. My roommate and I love going there for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even at some random times. Any time is a good time for Denny's.

5. I hate laundry day.

Becuase we lived in a dorm, we didn't have our own washer and dryer. On our floor, there were three of each machine and we would have to haul our laundry to the laundry room and hope all of them weren't taken. After thirty minutes, after we had gotten comfortable again, we had to go back to switch it over to the dryer. Sometimes, people would leave their clothes in the dryer for hours and we would have to wait for them to retrieve them. I hated laundry day.

6. I'm tired of studying for this test.

Just like everyone else, I have a lot of tests and quizzes. I sit on my bed or at my desk, attempting to study the material, but sometimes, it just ain't happening. Saying "I'm tired of studying for this test" is probably the most said thing on this list because I thoroughly hate tests.

7. Do we have to go to the gym?

Last year, my roommate and I went to the gym 2-3 times a week for cycling classes and yoga but after a long day of classes, sometimes you just don't want to go. You know that there is an hour of sweat, aches, and loud music ahead of you, but we trudge on, usually.

8. Do you want my luck?

Whenever she has a hard test or a chat with a professor about a grade, I always tell my roommate that I'll give her my luck. We say "yeah I don't need my luck so you can have it!" It makes us feel better and more confident, and I really like the personal tradition.

9. Pizza?

As poor, hungry college kids, we like cheap food. When the ramen noodles run out and we want to treat ourselves, we order ourselves a pizza. It's nice not to have to worry about cooking or going out to get our food. Plus it's delicious

10. I believe in you!

Becuase we are BFF's, we want each other to succeed and prosper. Sometimes, a little reminder is needed/ wanted so telling each other this is really nice when I've had a stressful day even if it is sometimes sarcastic.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
