2017. It is, without a doubt, going to be a year of change. With the results of the last presidential election what they are, many people are fearful and concerned for the future; concerned for 2017 and the changes that the new president elect and his government will bring to the United States, including me. The country is a point of great change, and the not knowing is the scariest part. While the fears of people are valid, I think that it's also important that we try to remain as positive as possible. So, in an effort to stay as positive as possible in this time of great uncertainty, here are some quotes that remind us to think positive as we look ahead to 2017.

"Love doesn't discriminate / Between the sinners / And the saints / It takes and it takes and it takes / And we keep loving anyway / We laugh and we cry / And we break / And we make our mistakes / And if there's a reason I'm by her side / When so many have tried / Then I'm willing to wait for it / I'm willing to wait for it." -Wait For It, Hamilton.

"The woods are lovely, dark, and deep / But I have promises to keep / And miles to go before I sleep / And miles to go before I sleep." - Robert Frost.

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” - Anne Frank

"There will be little rubs and disappointments everywhere, and we are all apt to expect too much; but then, if one scheme of happiness fails, human nature turns to another; if the first calculation is wrong, we make a second better: we find comfort somewhere." - Jane Austen

“Get busy living or get busy dying.” - Stephen King

“Fight till the last gasp.” - William Shakespeare

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." Dr. Seuss

“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it's yours.” - Ayn Rand

“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” F. Scott Fitzgerald

“I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I'll go to it laughing.” - Herman Melville

“I hope, or I could not live.” - HG Wells

"Do not just seek happiness for yourself. Seek happiness for all. Through kindness. Through mercy." - David Levithan

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
