Have you ever sat down and thought to yourself, "What are teens?" I am here to today to ask you that very question. Being a teen myself, I don't even know where I fall in these categories. The categories of being either a child or an adult. Sure, sometimes I do act like a child, but that doesn't mean I can't think for myself and make my own decisions.
Obviously we could just say we are apart of the teenager category, but have you have caught yourself saying, "Why don't you act more like a teenager?" Even if you have heard that, what does that even mean? It's not like there is a set guideline for us. I've heard things before. Like, we are supposed to go get a job, but we're too young. We're supposed to go to college, but it's too expensive.
We're supposed to live life to it's fullest, but when we do we are acting childish? I'm not sure if you understand what I am saying or not, but basically it's that teenagers have a double standard. We have to get jobs to keep up with finances, keep up with our in school so that we can go to college or some type of trade school, and somehow still try to maintain a healthy social life? Speaking from experience, that's a lot of work. Especially if we are involved with extracurricular activities.
Teenagers are on the go virtually non-stop. Of course, I am not discrediting adults, but we also have really busy lives. So, whenever we decide that one day we are going to sleep in to catch up on all the sleep we have missed out on over the week, let us. It's not like we ask for too much, but for the love of everything holy just let us have our Saturday morning to sleep in, and our Saturday night to hangout with some friends. I feel as if there is also a very large group of adults who just love to look at every little thing that teens do as negative.
For instance, a very large majority of us like to listen to our music loud when we drive or when we are doing our work. To them they think that it's very disrespectful, but that same person who listens to their music too loud is also the person who stands up for the elderly, to try and help them keep their social security. Not all of us are disrespectful like the media will sometime portray us.
A lot of us are actually really kind hearted and try to make an effort to help out our society. It's honestly pretty comical for us to hear some of the stories that some adults will come up with. Such as, how much drugs our generation does, or how lazy we are, or even how we don't care about anything. If you stop and think about it, who's fault is that really? That's up for you to decide.
