When it comes to decision making things are never simple. There's always a million different things to consider and keep in mind while making an important decision. Ultimately, the final say should come from the person making the decision and not from someone trying to change the their mind.

A 17 year old undocumented immigrant known only as "Jane Doe" has recently received an abortion; her battle against the Trump Administration prevented her from receiving the abortion for over a month. As with any abortion there is the constant debate of whether or not it's ever okay. People argue that an abortion is the same as murder and that it is never the answer under any circumstance. Those people fail to realize what the person carrying the fetus is going through. To have to carry something in your body for a significant period of time is continuous reminder of perhaps a traumatic experience that the person wants to forget and move past. Motherhood should be a joyous blessing, it should not have to be forced upon someone who is not ready.

The teen crossed the border into Texas in the hopes of building a better life for herself, aspiring to one day become a nurse. She was later detained and placed in a shelter for children where she learned of her pregnancy. Raising a child is never easy, it brings with it lots of sacrifices along with a great deal of commitment. In order to raise a child a person must be both financially and mentally stable. Giving the child up for adoption is a factor to consider, but is it worth putting a person through an unwanted pregnancy and further traumatizing them?

At the shelter in which the teen was detained, her plans of abortion were denied. According to her, she was sent to a religiously affiliated crisis pregnancy center where she was forced to look at the sonograms. People she had never met before were telling her what she should do with her life.

With the help of her lawyers, Rochelle Garza and Christine Cortez along with the Jane's Due Process, the teen was able to appear before a judge who after a month of waiting granted her permission to proceed with her plans of abortion without the consent of her parents. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sued the Department of Health and Human Services on the teen's behalf for not allowing her to get the abortion sooner.

In a statement released by the teen, she states, "No one should be shamed for making the right decision for themselves. I would not tell any other girl in my situation what they should do. That decision is hers and hers alone."

The topic of abortion raises tremendous controversy. In the end, the decision belongs to the woman alone. She should never have to be forced to doubt herself. If she feels that having an abortion is the best option for her then she should have the freedom and power to do so. No one's body should have to become subject to government control.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
