Technology hates me, and vice versa.
You'd think in this day and age I'd love my phone and laptop more than anything. I mean, they store my music, photos, and calendar. Besides the fact that they keep me in touch with friends and family, they also keep my life organized and provide me the tools I need to get important work done. So, when my phone and laptop decided to stage a mutiny, I was heartbroken.
It all started September 9, 2016 when Verizon apparently had an outage in my area. All. Day. Long. I couldn't text or call anyone who didn't have an iPhone (which is a huge chunk of the people I know), and eventually, even while connected to WiFi, none of my apps would load and absolutely no texts would send. Sure, that doesn't seem too serious, but I dealt with this issue from 5AM until 5:30PM. That's 12 and a half hours with no way to contact certain family members and friends; for 12 and a half hours, all I had was an iPhone 5-shaped paperweight. And just when I finally got cell service back, my laptop decided to die with a fully charged battery. All in all, it was not a fun time.
Then iOS 10 decided to rear its ugly head. Sure, it seemed great at first; it had cool new features for texting, the music app got a bit of a face lift, and emojis got a makeover. As I went about my day, however, I kept getting voicemails from my mom telling me to pick up the phone even though I never got alerted she'd been calling me. For whatever reason, iOS 10 disabled my ability to make and receive phone calls. Thankfully Apple's customer support Twitter is run by beautiful people who managed to help me fix my phone.
iOS 10, however, wasn't a huge fan of being repaired; it decided to automatically updated to iOS 10.2 overnight, and start the whole "no phone calls whatsoever" fiasco all over again. This time Apple's customer support Twitter wasn't able to help, and Verizon customer support was just...not supportive. After two days and the realization that someone from the internship I applied for may try to call me, I had to get a new phone. (Fun fact: I'm keep iOS 10 far away from this one).
Of course, my evil tech horror stories aren't just limited to just my cell phone. Why would they be? They extend to my laptop that I recently had to send back to HP for repairs to my spacebar key. Unless I hit the key directly in the center with the just the right amount of force, all my school papers ended up as one long sentence. HP had to fix the same issue back in July (that's right, my rocky relationship with tech has been going on for months), and fortunately they had my previous claim on file and were able to help me. However, while it may be back from repairs, it was shipped to my house while I was in my dorm with no plans of being home that particular weekend.
All in all, I'm just about ready to head back to the days typewriters and rotary phones; they seem much less complicated. Then again, if my luck with technology really is that bad, maybe I should just play it safe and head back to caveman times.
