I used to love Taylor Swift. Like, listened to her music 24/7, saw her in concert, owned the T-shirt kind of love. Almost as much as I loved the JoBros–almost.
But in the last few years, after repeatedly being disappointed by her "feminism," her cattiness, and, yes, her music, I now have to classify myself as an ex-fan. Don't @ me.
Despite this, I still have a place in my heart for her greatest hits, and I think we all could use a reminder of vintage Taylor before every single song was about revenge and drama. So without further ado, here are five of my personal choices for her 2030 album of greatest hits:
1. Teardrops on My Guitar
If this song doesn't make you a little sad, then I don't know what will. This is still my go-to song when I just want to lay on the floor and be sad for a little while, and it's the reason I tried–and failed–to learn the guitar.
2. Love Story
Those opening guitar lines get me every time. The ballgowns, the braids that I tried and tried (and failed) to recreate, the handsome guy? And nothing gets more romantic than those Romeo and Juliet references, at least in the mind of a 13-year-old.
3. You Belong With Me
In contrast to the total romanticism of "Love Story," this one is way more honest, and way more relatable when you're 12 years old and crushing on that guy that glanced at you at the stoplight last week.
4. Better Than Revenge
This was probably the first time we saw Taylor's revenge side. I just remember listening to this song in the car with my mom and hearing the line "She's better known for the things she does on the mattress," and my little middle school mind was blown.
5. Long Live
I think this is one of her most underappreciated songs, probably because it's one of her few non-romantic ones. Despite this, it's my favorite song to play when I'm in the car with my friends, reminiscing about high school–while simultaneously being so grateful that it's over.
