I Stand By Taylor Swift, On The Account Of Her Undeserved Injustice Within The Music Industry

For those who don't know, it was announced to the world the morning of Sunday, June 30th, that Scooter Braun had purchased Taylor Swift's masters, access to almost thirteen years of her award-winning, critically-acclaimed art. Scooter is someone that had bullied Taylor in the past, orchestrating his clients, including Justin Bieber, to bully Taylor online about the Kardashian phone scandal, and allowing Kanye West, another one of his clients, to produce a pornographic version of Taylor in his music video, in response to the phone scandal. Not only does someone who tried to wreak havoc into Taylor's career now have access to her entire musical past, everything except her upcoming 7th studio album "Lover," but she had no opportunity to buy her masters, which is disgusting.

Unlike a lot of today's artists, Taylor writes her own music. In fact, Speak Now, her 3rd studio album, is written entirely by her, with zero co-writes on the entire album. Taylor has always chosen to share her diary with the world, but now she has absolutely no choice as to what comes of her past. As a 15-year-old with dreams of being a star, she signed to Big Machine Records because Scott Borchetta, owner of Big Machine Records, expressed his loyalty to her, and she signed a contract to write six albums under his label, which is what she ended up doing, the whole time never owning her masters despite expressing her desire to.

Once that contract was up, she told Scott that she would be looking into other options for herself as an artist, and ended up signing to Universal Music Group in November of 2018. By doing this, she bet on her future, leaving her past pieces of art in the hands of Scott, who then sold them to Scooter, who has done nothing but publicly try to put her down.

Even if you do not like Taylor Swift, this scandal shows a deeper, darker problem within the music industry. Taylor was taken advantage of by someone she believed she could trust, someone she presented her entire soul to, because Taylor truly expresses so much raw emotion within her art that make listeners, including myself, feel a connection to her. It is unfair that Taylor was not given the opportunity to buy her masters, and both Scott and Scooter are awful people, Scott for betraying her after working with her for over a decade, and Scooter for bullying her and trying to bring her down as a musician, and now holding in his hands almost thirteen years of her hard work.

There is a petition for Taylor to re-release her six studio albums, and if you would like to sign that petition, you can find it here. You can also support Taylor by using the hashtag #westandwithTaylor on all social media platforms.

If you would like to support Taylor and work that she owns all masters to, you can preorder, pre-add, pre-save, pre-everything her seventh studio album "Lover," which comes out August 23rd. You can find the link to preorder the standard and deluxe editions of "Lover" from Target here.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
