If you've even been on the Internet in the past week, you've probably heard about the James Charles and Tati Westbrook feud that's taken over. While the whole scandal was convoluted and very one-sided from the start, there are some lessons that are key takeaways after the whole thing has finished.
Loyalty matters.
What James allegedly did to Tati was not only cruel, but also immature. If Tati was really one of James's best friends, then why did he try to get Sugar Bear Hair to give him artist passes to Coachella? He's promoted Halo Beauty on his channel before, so why did he think he could do a 180 and promote Sugar Bear on Instagram? Even if Tati didn't, someone would've called him out on his b**ls**t.
There are two sides to every story.
While James didn't immediately come out with his story, there are still some inconsistencies between the two. Obviously, Tati and James each have their own opinions about what happened at Tati's birthday dinner. However, Tati was in the wrong when she said James tried to convince a straight boy to be with him, as the waiter clearly stated he was exploring his sexuality. I do agree though that James should've kept these things more private and not talked about boys as much on his social media.
Don't jump to conclusions.
Obviously, after hearing both Tati and James's videos, there are several things that the two disagree on. While everyone initially jumped on the anti-James bandwagon, there's been a lot of apologizing, and James has regained a decent amount of subscribers.
Everyone doesn't need to know the details of your fights.
When you publicly broadcast your problems for the entire world, you're giving anyone with Internet access the ability to troll, send hate, pick sides, etc. This especially applies to Twitter and Facebook — if you have a problem with someone, go to that person specifically. Don't put all your problems on the Internet for everyone to see.
Kindness matters.
Through all of this, the defining character trait of Tati has been kindness. James even admitted in his video that Tati has the biggest heart, and in both videos she stated that she didn't want any hate for herself or James. Additionally, I believe that Tati didn't release her video for press. She stated in her second video that she thought she'd get hate for it, and I believe that she genuinely cared about James and wanted him to change. While neither side is completely in the right or completely in the wrong, I believe that Tati's kindheartedness really helped to diffuse the situation when everyone was hating on James after she released her first video.
There's a lot on the Tati and James scandal that I'm sure we don't even know, but there are a lot of videos on the Internet about it, and if you'd like to watch, I suggest checking out both Tati and James's YouTube channels for more info!
