Whether you're an old fan, or new to the "Gilmore Girls" sensation, the name Lauren Graham should bring many things to mind (mainly a quick wit and an unsurpassed coffee addiction). For seven brilliant years, she portrayed the character of Lorelai Gilmore, mother to Rory Gilmore, in the hit television series Gilmore Girls. Devoted fans have followed her through several movies, another hit television show ("Parenthood"), and a fiction novel ("Someday, Someday, Maybe"). Now, almost a decade, later she's back reprising her role as the beloved Lorelai in a four-part Netflix series entitled "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life." But that's not all! She has also re-entered the book world with her first non-fiction work "Talking as Fast as I Can" set to release in November just a few days after the premiere of the revival episodes.
*pause for internal screams of joy*
Here's what Lauren has to say about the book:
“This book contains some stories from my life: the awkward growing up years, the confusing dating years, the fulfilling working years, and what it was like to be asked to play one of my favorite characters again. You probably think I’m talking about my incredible achievement as Dolly in Hello, Dolly! as a Langley High School junior, a performance my dad called “you’re so much taller than the other kids.” But no! I’m talking about Lorelai Gilmore, who, back in 2008, I wasn’t sure I’d ever see again. Also included: tales of living on a houseboat, meeting guys at awards shows, and that time I was asked to be a butt model. A hint: all three made me seasick.”
If you haven't read her first book "Someday, Someday, Maybe," you're missing out. It has everything we know and loves about the actress and the roles she has undertaken - snappy dialogue, incredibly relatable characters, humor galore, and a story that keeps you enraptured the whole time, constantly wondering just what is going to happen to Franny next?
While this new book is nonfiction, it promises to hold all of the same elements of Lorelai Gilmore... I mean Lauren Graham... that her first book did, mainly because it's a collection of autobiographical essays about the star herself. It recounts tales of her life from the sets of both Gilmore Girls runs (we've all been dying for those behind-the-scenes secrets, am I right?) not to mention some surely incredible stories from the rest of her life that she has managed to keep untarnished from the harsh glare of the Hollywood spotlight. All of these things make the promise of an A++ book. Why would you not preorder it right now?
