Graduation is coming, and adulthood is approaching... BOO! Right now you're experiencing a lot of emotions. You're glad to be done with college, but you'll miss it, and the most important question: now what? If you have not figured out your future yet, don't fret! What you should do is have a conversation with your parents, and here is what it should include:
1. Where you’re going to live
You may want to stay with mom and dad, or find a place of your own. You may want to stay in your hometown or college town, or you may want to move to a whole new city. My plan is to move across the country and live with family, and take my time finding a place of my own.
2. Moving and storage
You may want to go through your belongings at home and decide what you want to keep and get rid of. If you decide to move, you may want to decide when. If you plan on moving somewhere far away, you may want take some time to say goodbye to people who are important to you especially if you've lived in the same area your whole life.
3. Whether or not you want to go to graduate school
Unlike Undergraduate, there is no pressure and really no deadline. If you would prefer to just go to work, then do it! If you're happy with what you're doing that's the important thing!!
4. How you’re going to handle your expenses on your own
Student loans, phone bills, credit card bill, rent, etc. And setting up a retirement plan.
5. Your goals
Dream Job, Love Life, Travel.
6. What you need from them
This is an open-ended one. What kind of support do you need from them? A roof over your head, financial/health support, or just emotional support. I know for me, it's all of the above.
7. Back-up Plans
What happens if you don't want a job in your degree? You move somewhere, but you want to come home?
Hopefully, this conversation will help alleviate the anxiety of the post grad life.
