Back at home, my mom has hung inspiration print-outs around the house. It’s a cute way to infuse positivity into our daily lives. I’d never admit it to my mom because it’s exactly what she wanted, but I find myself reciting these little sayings throughout my day. For instance, the one hanging in my bathroom reads, “Always find time for the things that make you feel happy to be alive”. Maybe it’s because this one saying stares at me the most, but it’s message tends to creep into my thoughts more than any other.
Even during the summertime, I tend to have a difficult time unwinding and find myself somewhat addicted to stress. Instead of relaxing by the pool, I signed myself up for working jobs and taking classes and finishing some to-do lists. Maybe I’m the only one who can’t settle down for a few months, but I can’t seem to find satisfaction in relaxation as opposed to productivity.
Amidst this busy-body tendency, the reminder to take time for the things that make me feel happy to be alive, is so necessary. I don’t think that the idea is to make time for laying in bed a.k.a scrolling on Instagram (as enjoyable as that is), but instead to periodically evaluate if what I am doing is positively impacting my life and that of those around me.
This motto has inspired things like starting a yoga routine, taking time for crafting and drawing, and going on hikes in local parks. All these things make me a happier, healthier person that now knows when to mentally separate from the stressors of daily life. Simply being able to take time to unwind and find simple joys in life is great and it's incredible that it could be inspired by the little posters hanging around our house.
In case you're dying to know the other nuggets of wisdom from the walls of our house, another great one on the door to the garage reads, "Put your positive pants on." As my family and friends leave our house, they'll often comment on the funny nature of these simple reminders of happiness.
So I inspire you to leave a little happiness wherever you go and to always find time for the things that make you feel happy to be alive.
