It's about time that you set some ground rules.

As we enter another year, we must remember the golden rule: we need to set one New Year's Resolution to go to the gym, and then break that resolution one week into the year. For those who actually stick to unrealistic resolutions, kudos to you. However, instead of setting these crazy expectations, why not set some fun, attainable goals for the new year?

I'm not trying to say "New Year, New Me", but is there anything wrong with that? Is there anything wrong with wanting to better yourself? Granted, you don't need the excuse of a new year to change what you don't like, but at the same time, a new year is a fresh start, and everyone deserves a fresh start.

Stop taking crap from others.

You might have already done this, but a good way to start the new year is to stop taking crap from others. We need more positivity in this world, and if you take every insult as a compliment, your year will not only be happier, but easier to deal with. Spin insults into compliments, and just for the heck of it, return the compliments. This year, spread positivity.

Get out of your own head.

To be fair, everyone gets in their own head every once in a while. It's easy to get into your own head, but it's even easier to get out of it. This year, make it so that every decision you make is intentional. No matter what it is, go in with your whole heart, and never let it get to you.

Learn a new skill.

This one might be the easiest of all. Skills, even the most minuscule, are easy to learn. Pick up a new instrument, plan to draw, or even practice writing every day. If you practice enough, you'll have a brand new skill under your belt in under a year.

Learn to laugh at yourself.

Let's be honest, we're all pretty funny. We make mistakes, many of them stupid, so why not take any chance to laugh at your own expense? Life is too short to dwell on past mistakes.

Trust your heart.

This is kind of related to getting out of your own head topic. No matter what you want to do in this new year, trust your heart and go for it. Talk to your crush, apply for your dream job, whatever it may be. As long as you go in, knowing in your heart that it was the right call, you should have a good new year.

Have fun.

Listen, life is short. We only get one life to live, so live it to the fullest. Any situation can be spun into an adventure, even if it's a midnight walk with your best friend. Even if you can't afford everything that everyone else can, like lavish vacations or concerts, as long as you make the most of your time, none of that should matter. Live, laugh, and have fun.

Happy New Year, and may you live your best life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
