An Open Letter To Little Girls Everywhere
Some words of advice for you to help you along your journey from someone who knows better.
Sweetheart, life is going to throw you a lot of curve balls.
It'll knock you off your feet and as soon as you try to stand back up, it'll push you over again. Your heart will get broken and stepped on and there will be times when you question why you're here at all. Don't worry, just give things time, it will get better, but to help you through it, I'd like to offer some words of advice:
There are people out there that will be careless with your feelings.
They may say mean things to you and you will get hurt but control your temper. This will serve you as you get older. But also, don't bottle things up. You have a nasty temper right now with a short fuse and when you bottle it up it's like opening that can of pop you dropped on the floor. Don't explode. Make sure you communicate your feelings. Tell people when they've made you angry and let them know when your feelings have been hurt. This leads me to my next piece of insight:
Don't ever lose your voice.
You're loud now and you make sure everyone knows your opinion, but the volume of the world around you increases with age and you may find your voice getting drowned out by a sea of opinions. So speak up. Voice your opinion and stand up for the things you believe in.
Lastly, watch out for boys,
especially the cute ones who are charming and always know what to say. You have a habit of codependency and you need someone to push and motivate you, not pacify you. When someone comes around and breaks your heart and it feels like your world is crashing around you, take time to heal yourself. Spend time with your friends. Grow and develop as the amazing individual you are. Eventually, you'll meet someone new that makes you happy and treats you the way you deserve to be treated.
There are plenty of obstacles that will come your way,
much more than I've told you already. Just know that I love and care for you very much, and I want nothing but the best for you. I already know with certainty that you'll turn out just fine. I have no doubt you'll see me again in a while.
Love,
A Big Girl Who Learned From Experience
