I'm Sorry, But In The Eyes Of God, 'Living For Yourself' Is Not A Healthy Way To Live Life
Being selfless is better than being selfish.
On February 22nd, a fellow Odyssey writer wrote an article about how living for their self is important to them. While I have no idea what their life is like, what I have learned is that this life is not supposed to be your own.
In my Christian walk, the more I live according to God's truth, I realize my purpose on Earth is not to glorify myself. Before I go any further, I am going to say that I am merely just disagreeing with them, not judging them. They may not be a Christian. That is OK. The Christian walk is not for everyone.
Case in point, they write: "College is the perfect time to be completely selfish with how you spend your time. We only get so much free time to do things that we are passionate about so it's important to take the time to evaluate what is most important to you and put your time dedicated to things and people that you care about the most. Your time should not be spent pleasing people or comparing yourself to others."
While I understand the attitude they have, I cannot agree with it.
In the article, they mention the word "myself" or some form of it over 30 times. Naturally, this is not an easy article to write. I respect people no matter where they come from or who they are. I love my Odyssey family. Every writer on the team is really talented writers. But I must take a stand for my faith.
This is me taking a stand for my faith.
The purpose of humans, no matter their age, is to glorify God and live their lives for God. We are supposed to know God and to make Him known. College students living for themselves is a complete waste of time and a spit in the face to God. Living for yourself is not going to help you when one day you die and come face to face God on judgment day.
The only person who can help us is Jesus Christ.
Sure, it is nice to have fun in this life, have success, have lots of money, have a husband/wife, and the typical "2.5 kids in a suburban neighborhood" lifestyle, but if there is one thing I have learned recently is that trying to stuff material things and human relationships in a hole in your soul that only God can fill is not healthy for you.
That being said, I will pray for them and I will still respect them, but I hope that they ultimately come back to their Heavenly Father.
