Today I would like to share something with you all that is actually very dear to me due to its simplicity being paired with its impact. I am going to prelude this with the fact that yes, I am a tab fanatic. This would be browser tabs like you currently have this article open in. Those who are close to me, or more accurately, those who have seen my Google Chrome usage, know that I am not very conservative when it comes to opening tabs. At this very moment, I have 54 tabs open, not including those that I am using to write this article. Now, I don't want to get into reasoning, because my browsing habits aren't the focus here, so this is where I will be leading into what I am actually passionate about.
I don't mind all the tabs because, well, that's how I keep track of things believe it or not and because I am actually helping to improve others lives through it. That last one may have caught you off guard for a second as I know that it sure struck me when I found out about Tab for a Cause. What they do is replace the standard new tab screen and replace it with one that displays a few advertisements on it. It's nothing crazy at all, though. I currently only have two picture based ads that come up. Then for each tab that you open you earn what they call hearts. Hearts have been estimated to be worth from one tenth to one fifth of a cent. This doesn't sound like much at all, however when you consider the effort that you're putting into it is next to nothing, I think it's pretty spectacular.
What can you do with these hearts then? Well, you donate then to your choice of eight predetermined charities. You have the option to choose from Save the Children, Room to Read, Educate!, Human Rights Watch, Action Against Hunger, Nerdfighteria/Project for Awesome, and my personal choice of water.org.
I would like to share some stats with you now about my usage history to date. I have been using Tab for a Cause for just under two years now and have donated 3,673 hearts and all but 56 of which have been given to water.org. The impact of this is that I have given enough to give a years worth of water to four people. I just find this astonishing that I have raised enough money for four people to drink clean water for an entire year just by opening tabs.
Using Tab for a Cause is really no inconvenience to me either. You can choose the background that is displayed on the page, as well as be able to add widgets of your choosing if you so desire. It is super easy to begin using as well since it is just a browser extension. For me, there really is no downside to using Tab for a Cause, it is only beneficial. In total, nearly $263,500 have been raised by "Tabbers"
I highly encourage anyone who browses the internet, (yes, this means you since you're currently reading this) to at least try it out. I am going to leave a link at the bottom of the article to take you to their page, that will give me a kickback of 250 hearts. I am telling you this just for transparency, however, it in no way benefits me, only these who reap the benefits of the charities supported by Tab for a Cause.
